Rocket League Going Free-To-Play This Summer

Psyonix’s Rocket League was launched back in 2015 and it is a multiplayer soccar sensation. Five years after its launch, the game is changing in a big way. Yesterday, the developers announced that the game will be transitioning from paid title to free-to-play game on all platforms, later this summer.

At the same time, it will also be shifting from Steam to Epic Games store for all new PC players. This means that the players will no longer have the option to download it through Steam. Psyonix also clarified that the current Steam players will still get updates and will be able to play with those on other platforms.

The developers of the game stated that the game’s transition will be accompanied by a major new update. Psyonix also stated that this will be the biggest update of the game till date. This update will include major changes to the Tournaments and Challenge systems.

If you are a veteran of Rocket league and worried about your impressive inventory of customization items, fear not! The new update will add cross-platform progression for players’ item inventory, covering elements like cosmetic items, Battle Pass progress, and Competitive Rank.

Once the update goes live, the existing players will notice a fresh coat of paint as soon as they launch the game. In addition, Menus are getting an overhaul to improve the experience.

Rocket League players who have downloaded the game before its transition to free-to-player will be rewarded with a special Legacy status in the game. This Legacy status comes with the following content:

  • All Rocket League-branded DLC released before free-to-play.
  • “Est. 20XX” title that displays the year when the player first started playing Rocket League.
  • 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality.
  • Golden Cosmos Boost.
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels.
  • Huntress Player Banner.

In addition, if you have played online before its transition, you will also receive the Faded Cosmos Boost once the free to play version launches this summer.

There is plenty more to be revealed about Rocket League’s free-to-play launch. We will keep you updated with all the new details and information.
