Pokémon Unite is currently a big name in the MOBA industry and it has established itself as a tough competitor against the likes of Arena of Valor, League of Legends, Vainglory, etc.
Developed by the TiMi Studio Group and published by The Pokemon Company for mobiles and by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch, the game was released back in June 2020. To be honest, it has had a glorious year since its release.
The game is based on the idea of Pokemon scoring goals against an enemy team in a sport-like game stadium. Players are free to battle against each other and rack up KOs, but the victory in the game is determined by which team scored the most points at the end. But here is the demerit. The scoreboards you will see during the match does not make any sense about where your team stands.
Instead, you have five messages which are displayed at regular intervals. The first message appears halfway into the match at five minutes, with the following popping up at three minutes, two minutes, and finally when the contest reaches the final one-minute mark.
WHAT DO THESE ALERTS MEAN?
- It’s a close battle!: There is a 0-20 point difference between each team.
- We’re in the lead!: Your team has a range of 21 to 99 point lead over the other players.
- We have a huge lead!: Your team has a 100 point lead or more.
- We’re struggling to keep up!: Your team is losing by a range of 22-99 points.
- We’re really struggling!: Your team is losing by 100 points or more.
Interestingly, if you get the “We’re struggling to keep up” message, it doesn’t mean the match is over. Technically the other team might only have 22 points – a gap that can easily be closed with the right plays.
HOW TO CHECK TEAM SCORES?
The point is that the team scores can’t be viewed during a battle. It is displayed at the end of the match only. Players can check out their respective scores and the breakdown of the team score at the results screen. Other than that, there is no method to check the clear scores in between the battle.
Yeah, if you are using the spectator mode, you can see the total score of each team in real-time at the top part of the screen. But that will not be a detailed breakdown of the scores, and hence is not a clear scorecard.
WILL WE SEE A SCORE COUNTER IN THE FUTURE?
The game will never reveal how well or how bad a team is performing or has performed until the end of the battle. According to the devs TiMi Studio Group, the lack of a live scoreboard is purely by design and this is not something they are going to fix in the near future. To justify this, the devs have mentioned that they have omitted the live scoreboard just to prevent losing players in the middle of the matches.
According to Unite’s producer Masaaki Hoshino –
“We wanted people to play without giving up to the very end, so we have no plans to add the live scoreboard in the future with any updates”.
