Fix: NFS Unbound Crashing After Character Selection Error

When players are at the screen where they have to choose a character, they are facing an unusual crash. But what’s worse is that the players are not even able to relaunch the game after that. However, deleting the dx12 cache file from the game installation folder has helped players launch the game, but it eventually crashes again when players try accessing the story mode.

Well, being in the trial period, such errors are quite expected. The good news is that the Community Managers of EA have responded to this and hopefully the developers would look into this issue and address it. In the meantime, you can try out the following potential fixes that can help you get rid of this problem.

1) Update Graphics Drivers

Updating your GPU’s drivers manually can resolve this problem. As NFS Unbound is a quite heavy game, it is believed that updating graphics drivers would help. If you are using an NVIDIA card, then you must head here. On the other hand, AMD card users must head here to install the latest graphics drivers.

2) Verify Game Files

Corrupted or missing game files can also trigger this error. To verify game files on Steam, you must head to Steam > Library> right-click on NFS Unbound > Properties > Local Files > “Verify Integrity of Game Files”.

3) Launch the game using the .exe file

To launch NFS Unbound using its .exe file, you must head to the game installation folder [Steam > NFS Unbound (Right-click) > Manage > Browse Local Files]. Here, you can find the NFS Unbound .exe file. You can also try running the file with admin privileges.

4) Update Windows

If you have any pending updates, then make sure to update Windows to the latest version. For that, go to Windows Search Bar and type “Check for Updates”.

5) Run the game on Dedicated Graphics Card

If you are a laptop user, then make sure to run the game on Dedicated Graphics Card. For that, open Graphics Settings from the Windows Search Bar and click on Browse. Now, head to the game installation folder through this path: C Drive > Users > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > NFS Unbound). Select the .exe file of the game and then add it. Now, click on the Options button and select High Performance. This will make sure that the game is running on your dedicated GPU.

6) Install Visual C++ files

You must install, update or repair Visual C++ files to resolve this issue. For that, visit the official Visual C++ website.

7) Delete the PcDx12 file in the game cache

To do this, simply head to this directory- My Documents\Need For Speed(TM) Unbound\cache. Now, all you have to do is delete the PcDx12 file. According to various players, deleting this file every time before launching the game helps, so you try this method.

So, these all were some generic methods to fix the NFS Unbound Crashing After Character Selection Error. If you found this article helpful, share it with your friends.
