The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update is now available, and fans are already digging it. The game’s visual attractiveness has significantly improved over when it was first published because this update was launched mainly to take use of modern hardware. The game now has choices for Ray Tracing and DLSS, which gives it a refreshing look. However, some gamers are experiencing stuttering and FPS drops; if this is you, then you must read this tutorial.
Players have frequently complained about the stuttering problem. Regardless of the system specifications, stuttering can happen to anyone. While the devs did acknowledge the issues and also released a hotfix for the same, some PC players are still not able to play the game as it was intended. So, we have listed some potential fixes.
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Low FPS & Stuttering Issue: How to fix it
Since this is a graphical issue, let us first tweak some in-game settings to see if it fixes the issue
For consoles
The next-gen update of The Witcher 3 has featured a Ray Tracing mode. This mode gives stunning graphics but also targets the game at 30 FPS; and if you do not want that, turn off Ray Tracing;
- Head over to “Options” from the game’s home screen.
- Under the “Options” tab, click and open “Display” settings.
- Now select “Graphics” under the display menu tab.
- The first setting visible here is the “frame rate mode”, there are two options to toggle between, “Performance mode” and “Ray Tracing mode”. You need to set it to “Performance mode” to disable ray tracing and get smooth 60 FPS gameplay. Restart the game, and it should run smoothly now.
For PC
If you are playing on a PC, you will find the ray-tracing settings under the “graphics” settings. Follow the steps mentioned below to get to the ray tracing settings on a PC;
- From the game’s home screen, select and open “Options”.
- Next click and open “Video”.
- Under the “Video” tab, click and open the “Graphics” option
Here, you will see the Ray tracing options, turn them all off to disable Ray tracing. There is also an “Anti-aliasing” option below this. If this is set to “DLSS”, disable it by sliding the toggle to the left.
Also, make sure your game is running in full-screen mode. For this, go to Options/Video/Display to check if it is on full-screen. If it is running in Windowed mode, switch it to full-screen. (You can also press Alt+Enter to force the game into fullscreen mode). Now launch the game and it should be free from any stuttering and frame drops. You can also limit the in-game FPS to get a stable performance. However, if that doesn’t solve the problem, move on to the other fixes given below.
Update Graphics drivers
It is crucial to regularly update your graphics drivers; both AMD and Nvidia release updates for their GPUs. Updating is advised because updates frequently focus on the performance optimization of your GPU.
For Nvidia card users;
- Launch the Geforce Experience application.
- You can download it from here if you don’t have it already.
- Once downloaded, go through the installation process and launch the application.
- Now, click and open the “Drivers” option visible at the top.
- Select “Check for update”. If an update is available, a green “Download” button will show up. Press it and the update will be automatically installed. Restart your system to finish the update.
For AMD card users;
- Open your “Adrenalin” software. If you can’t find it, search for it in the windows search box.
- If you don’t have it, get it from here.
- Now, launch the application, and go to the top-right where there is an option “Check for updates”. Click on it and see if an update is available.
- Download the update, it will be installed automatically requiring you to do a restart at the end.
With that, you will have your graphics driver updated. Now, open the game and check if the problem persists.
Reinstall
If you are constantly running into the problem, you can consider uninstalling the game altogether and installing a fresh copy again. This might solve the issue.
That brings us to the end of this guide. If none of the fixes works for you, we would suggest you wait for the devs to fix this in an upcoming patch. We hope you found this guide helpful. Keep checking Digistatement for more tips like this, and happy monster hunting.
