Stray Souls Native Linux Support might not be coming so soon, says developer

Stray Souls is an upcoming horror game that is generating excitement among horror fans. It is a game that promises to deliver a unique horror experience with its combination of gameplay elements inspired by classic titles, along with new mind-bending puzzles, and randomized systems. The game is set in the haunted town of Aspen Falls, where players will take on the role of Daniel, an average teenager whose life took a deep turn after he inherited his grandmother’s house, and encountered a new mysterious woman. While the game is set to release sometime in 2023 on all major platforms, some players on the Linux Operating system are wondering if the game will have Native Linux Support. If you are one among them, keep reading for an answer.

Linux support for games means that the game has been developed and tested to run on PCs running the Linux operating system. It means that the game is compatible with Linux and can be played on a Linux-based computer without the need for any additional software or compatibility layers. If you did not know, Linux is an open-source operating system that is known for its stability, security, and flexibility, which is why some gamers prefer it over Windows OS. But, not all games that get released have native support for Linux. But, will Stray Souls join the list? Let’s find out.

Stray Souls Native Linux Support might not be coming so soon, says developer

Linux users, in particular, have faced challenges when it comes to finding games that are natively supported on their platform. Unfortunately, as of the latest update from the developers, there are no plans for a Linux version of Stray Souls at the moment. In a recent discussion thread on the Steam community page of Stray Souls, a user posted a question about the possibility of the game having Linux support. They asked whether there were any plans to release a native Linux build for the game, citing the use of Unreal Engine 5 for development as a reason to be hopeful. Now it is also worth noting that while the Unreal Engine 5 used to develop Stray Souls does have support for Linux, that doesn’t necessarily mean that every game built on it will have a Linux version. Game development involves many moving parts, and even if the engine itself is capable of running on Linux, there may be other factors that make it difficult to port a specific game.

In response, Shoegazer, a member of the development team, acknowledged the user’s inquiry and stated that there are currently no plans for Linux support in Stray Souls. However, they also reassured the community that they would keep them informed if anything changes in the future. So while Stray Souls may not have native Linux support at the moment, it’s important to keep in mind that game development is a constantly evolving process. The developers may decide to add Linux support at a later date, or the Linux gaming community may find ways to make the game playable on their system. And when that happens, we will let you know about it so make sure to check Digistatement regularly.
