Starship Troopers Extermination is the latest addition to the Starship Troopers series. Developed and published by Offworld Industries, the Early Access version of the game was released on May 17. Judging from the first impressions, the game gained popularity right from the day it was launched. Fans of the Starship Troopers series loved the game, and it was welcomed with “very positive” reviews on Steam. However, with all the hype around the game, players have faced issues as well. Some players have reported an update loop issue with Starship Troopers Extermination, where they get stuck within a loop of prompts guiding them to update the game and Steam showing that the game is up to date. If you have faced this problem with the game, keep reading this guide to learn how to fix it.

Starship Trooper Extermination is a 16-player co-op FPS game where teams can be divided into four squads to perform the tasks to complete the missions. Players can play as either of the three types of trooper classes: Hunter, Bastion, and Operator. The game begins with a dropship dropping the players on the planet of Valaka. Players play as members of the Brimstone Company, and their main mission is to secure the resources of the planet. They will need to complete their tasks and approach the extraction point while going up against the Arachnid empire. The game successfully provides fans with a unique backstory, marvelous gameplay, and eye-catching visuals. However, with all its plus points, the update loop issue is something that still needs to be solved.

How to Fix the Update Loop Issue in Starship Troopers Extermination?

Starship Troopers: Extermination has had a positive reception overall. However, even then, when you open the game’s Steam discussion page, you will find a number of players reporting the update loop issue. As per the reports, when players open the game, it asks them to install the latest update. And yet, as soon as they head to their Steam Library to download the update, it shows that the game is up to date. The update loop has resulted in players being unable to play or enjoy the game.

The good news here is, one of the developers paid attention to the issues being mentioned by the fans. And eventually, they have given the players a few workarounds that might fix the update loop issue in the game. The developer, profiled as Scapes shared the following workarounds –

  • According to Scapes, Steam can take a while before it populates the latest updates for a game. To overcome the update loop issue, you can restart Steam, which might fix the problem without breaking a sweat.
  • If that doesn’t work, you can try to fix the issue by verifying your game files. In order to do this, go to your Steam library and right-click on Starship Troopers Extermination. Next, select “Properties” from the drop-down menu. Then, choose the “Local files” tab, and click on the “Verify integrity of game files” button. Steam will then run a check to ensure that none of the necessary game files are missing, and will replace the missing ones (if any) by itself.
  • If the issue persists, simply restarting your PC might as well do the trick. This classic trick has been reported to be successful in fixing the update loop issue in Starship Troopers Extermination, so give this method a try.
