Starfield is certainly a solid showcase from Bethesda and gives confidence to fans’ expectations for the next studio title, The Elder Scrolls VI. However, this is a Bethesda game, and those aren’t particularly known for being bug/issue-free. From the Deimos station bug to the missing weapon assignment issue, there’s a lot that needs immediate addressing in Starfield. And recently, the issue of oxygen levels depleting quickly even while walking has started annoying many players.
The issue is, as the name suggests. Walking in Starfield doesn’t deplete O2 levels, but for some reason, the opposite is happening for certain players. This has led to the O2 levels dropping very quickly even when walking, and players are waiting almost 30 seconds for their O2 level to fill up again, and as such, the experience has been deteriorating. So, if you are encountering the same problem, continue reading to know if a fix is available for this issue or not.
Starfield Oxygen (O2) Levels depleting quickly while walking issue: Is there any fix yet
For now, players will have to satisfy themselves with the following workarounds since there is no official acknowledgment or fix regarding the same. So, try these out and check if any of them are effective.
Free up your inventory space:
The most common cause behind this issue is the player going over the carrying weight, resulting in them getting encumbered. If that’s the case for you, the fix is simple. Just remove some items from your inventory so that you don’t cross the weight limit. Additionally, you can also consume an item that will temporarily increase your weight limit or transfer some of your items either to your companion or the ship’s cargo hold. If the issue is still there, then check out the next workaround.
Ensure that you aren’t suffering from negative status effects –
Some negative status effects can also result in O2 levels depleting while walking. Open your character screen and click on Status to see if you are currently suffering from any negative status effects. If yes, then use healing items to get rid of it. Also, make sure that you have not enabled auto-run by mistake.
Use jetpacks to move around –
This isn’t a direct workaround per se, but more of an alternative. Plus, it’s more fun than walking around mindlessly. In order to use these, you will first need to unlock at least rank 1 in the Boost Pack Training skill in the Tech tree.
Reload a previous save –
Sometimes a run can bug out, and as such, reloading a previous save is the only way to go. This is also why players are suggested to frequently perform a manual save instead of relying on the auto-save feature. After reloading, check if the issue still persists. If yes, then try the next workaround.
Restart Starfield –
This is the simplest workaround. At times, just a restart is all you need to completely fix an issue. However, keep in mind that the chances of this happening are 50/50. Nonetheless, give it a try and check if the O2 levels are still depleting while walking.
