The first week of Starfield has been mostly great, with long-time Bethesda fans happy to finally get their hands on a well-made RPG after so many years. While the general game content is quite good, in typical Bethesda fashion, there are some major technical issues plaguing Starfield. And among them is a bug affecting extractors.
In Starfield, extractors happen to be one of the most important in-game elements for mining various resources. These machines are built at outposts and used for extracting resources from a planet. In simple terms, this is how most of the mining works in the game. Losing access to it due to a bug is unacceptable. We don’t really know what causes this bug to occur. But what we do know is that the bug makes it so that these extractors are either unable to produce anything or don’t even work at all. So, is there a fix? Let’s find out!
Starfield Extractors Not Working Bug: Is there any fix yet
At the moment, there are no official fixes for this particular bug. Until that becomes available, we suggest you try out the following workarounds:
Check whether you are correctly linking your extractors –
In order for extractors to work correctly, you need to link them individually to storage and transfer containers. This is so that the output can go directly to those containers. Also, make sure that they are not full. This is not all, though. You should also check if proper power is going to the extractor. A single extractor needs about five power, which can be provided by a generator, turbine, or solar array. If the required power is not provided, then the extractor will be unable to produce anything. Correctly link all the cables so that the extractors receive their required amount of power.
Check your extractors for damage –
A damaged extractor is not going to work at all. If you were recently attacked and had few or no defenses, then there’s a high chance that your extractors were damaged and dismantled. Furthermore, even environmental threats like storms can result in damage to extractors. So, check each extractor individually and repair it.
Rebuild the machine –
If the previously mentioned workarounds don’t work, then dismantle one extractor and rebuild it. Once a new extractor is built, place it in the correct spot and link all the cables. Pray that the machine god blesses the instruments and activates the extractors. If this fixes the issue, dismantle all extractors and rebuild them.
Check your extractor placement –
If the extractors are still not producing correctly despite linking every power source and storage, then the fault might lie with their placement. You can’t just build and place those anywhere. They can only be placed at spots where there are high amounts of minerals. See to it that each extractor is correctly placed.
Verify the integrity of game files –
In the event that Starfield has one or more missing files, this could be a major factor in the surfacing of this bug. To remedy that, open Steam and go to the library. Next, find and right-click on Starfield. Now, select Properties > Installed Files > Verify the integrity of game files. When the process is complete, start the game and see if the extractors are working correctly.
