Smooth and high definition gameplay quality has never been bad for anyone and definitely not in competitive games, many professional players in E-Sports play at the maximum fps, that is anywhere from 120 to 244, as this provides a fluidity when it comes to movement and definitely can even decide the result of the match, Rocket League is no different, players should play at the highest frame rate and resolution they can as this is quite beneficial in competitive gaming. Rocket League patch v2.04 being released on September 14, 2021, will provide Playstation 5 players 4k and 120 fps support, we will address what the requirements are and how exactly you can set up your Playstation 5 to run at those numbers.
Before we get to the requirements and how you can enable it on your Playstation 5, patch v 2.04 has also disabled voice chat because according to the developers and also something players can agree on, the voice chat isn’t the best in terms of quality and performance for a fast paced competitive game like Rocket League, hence they have stated that they are going to continue working on it and will bring the voice chat system back into the game sometime early 2022, and will provide more details as we get closer to this release date.
Coming back to the main topic, what are the requirements to play Rocket League at 120 fps and 4k resolution on your Playstation 5, we have listed the compatible hardware required below.
- HDMI 2.1 capable 4k/120 hz display
- HDMI 2.1 cable
Not that many requirements but they are specific and definitely not common if you’re using television as your display.
To play at 120 fps, you will need to change your video settings on your console, to do this read our guide below.
- From the Playstation 5 home screen, redirect yourself to the settings
- Select “Screen and Video”
- After which select “Video Output”
- set Enable 120 Hz output to Automatic
It should be mentioned that once you’ve enabled 120hz the HDR is automatically disabled but if you’ve disabled 120hz then HDR is enabled with 60hz.
