Remnant 2 Save Files Corrupted

If you’re familiar with Gunfire Games’ Remnant: From the Ashes, then you already know the prowess of the developers. This is once again reciprocated, as they have introduced the sequel, Remnant 2. The game is set to release on July 25, 2023, for Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. If you couldn’t wait and have already accessed the game, then we understand your excitement. Overall, Remnant 2 has been able to reach the level of anticipation it was supposed to achieve. But, the catch is that it isn’t at its finest yet, and players are running the risk of encountering several errors while playing the game. One such error is the corrupted save file issue in Remnant 2, which affects the progress you make in the game. If you’re facing this issue, we understand how frustrating it can be. Well, read this guide for more details and some potential workarounds on how to fix it.

In any case, after grinding at a game for hours, the least players expect is to have their progress saved. This is why the corrupted save file issues are extremely detested by players, as they ruin all the work they put into the game. Especially if we’re talking about a game that’s as popular as Remnant 2, these issues surely put a dent in the overall experience. It’s painful if you spend the entire night progressing through the game, and then the next morning when you launch it, it’s all gone.

Remnant 2 Save Files Corrupted Issue: How to Fix?

Remnant 2 Save Files Corrupted

Well, the developers have shared a workaround to fix the corrupted save files issue in Remnant 2. However, to do this, you will need to access the game’s save file location and replace the corrupt files with the backed-up ones. The developers stated that they keep a backup of the user profile and game saves in the same directory where the saved files are located. So, here are the required steps to find the game’s save file location:

  • Go to File Explorer and then go to This PC.
  • Open your C: Drive, and from the list, open your Users folder.
  • Locate and open YOUR USERNAME folder.
  • Scroll down and open your Saved Games folder.
  • Find the Remnant 2 folder and click on it.
Inside, you’ll find a folder named Steam. Open it, and inside you’ll find a folder named after your Steam ID.
  • Open this subfolder, and you’ll have access to all your saved files of the game.
  • Now, back up this entire folder in another location, just to be safe.

Note: There have been several reports from players stating that their in-game progress of Remnant 2 isn’t saved on the location mentioned above. Well, if you cannot find the game saves in the above-mentioned path, try visiting this path: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Remnant2\Saved\SaveGames\Steam\[Steam ID Folder]

In this directory, you will find that the game’s saved progress is saved in a file with the .sav extension (save_0.save, save_1.save). And the backup saved files have extensions such as .bak1, .bak2, and so on. Among these files, the file extension with the lowest number is the newest backup file (.bak1, in this example). So, when the corrupted save file issue occurs, simply delete the corrupted .sav file, and change the name of the corresponding backup to match the original name of the .sav file. This should be able to fix the error.

Well, this is how you can troubleshoot the save file corruption issue in Remnant 2. Hopefully, you’ll find this guide helpful. If you want to read more such gaming-related content, keep visiting DigiStatement!
