Imagine working hard to first collect that Mega energy and those precious candies then work on evolving your Charizard into Charizard Y expecting the next evolution to go easier and BAM! Here is some spicy Pokemon Go news for you guys, players are complaining that the cost of evolving Charizard Y does not get lower for the second evolution. And Niantic support seems to believe that all is dandy with their game as they reject this issue as a Pokemon Go Bug.
If you have not been living under a rock, Mega Evolution has arrived to Pokemon Go and has already seen its fair share of controversy. The steep cost of Mega Evolutions and the temporary time limit made players angry but Niantic were quick to update. If you do not know how to Mega Evolve your Pokemon it goes like this: First you have to collect Mega Energy for your specific type through Mega raids or tasks. Once you have that Mega Energy you can use it to evolve your Pokemon. With the new update, the cost of the second evolution of any Pokemon was lowered.
Pokemon Go News: Mega Charizard Bug
So what is this bug exactly? Redditor u/OceanicShark found that even though he already evolved Charizard into Charizard Y, the second evolution does not cost lower amount.
If you have Mega Evolved a Charizard into Mega Charizard Y but not Mega Charizard X, the game will require you to have 200 energy. Before proceeding to the Mega Evolution screen, even if you are evolving it into Charizard Y again.
Another user Krab14 tweeted to Niantic support with proof in images. Niantic help did not take the issue seriously and said that this is how the game is intended to work.

It looks like it’s getting the cost from the 1st Mega Form, which isn’t an issue for most Pokémon. Hopefully this isn’t an issue with Mewtwo later – Mega Mewtwo Y is highly anticipated pic.twitter.com/4XWYM6swgD— Adam Krebs (@armorabs_krabs) September 3, 2020
This isn’t a bug, Trainer! Once you’ve Mega-Evolved a Charizard, the Mega Energy required for future Mega Evolutions of that particular form will be reduced. To reduce the energy cost for the other form, you’ll need to Mega Evolve it for the full cost first. -Niantic Support Reply
The issue might be a simple one but if it true for every Pokemon then we have a big problem at hand. The reduced energy cost update should not work like this, forcing players to Mega Evolve into X & Y both.
Note- It works correctly if you choose to go for Mega Charizard X.
