OnePlus 7 series not getting regular security patch updates

In the last few years, OnePlus was very much praised by the audience. Due to its cheap pricing and flagship features, OnePlus won many hearts. One of the main reasons why I loved OnePlus is its “close to the stock Android” experience. But, some recent events are bringing a bad name to the company. OnePlus recently faced criticism due to forcing Netflix, Facebook, and HeyTap bloatware. Then, OnePlus started showing “un-hideable” notifications to Indian users. And now, forums are filled with complaints where OnePlus 7 series users are saying that they are not getting regular security patch updates.

Yesterday, a Reddit user AmazingCorn21 took to the OnePlus subreddit forum and added a post about his complaint. He said that OnePlus is talking about the Android 11 and September security patch but, his OnePlus 7 Pro is still on the July security patch and he hasn’t yet received any new security update.

The original statement by AmazingCorn21 goes as below,

So, I’ve been seeing posts from Oneplus talking about the September security patch and bug fixes for the Oneplus 7 and 7t series, and the release of Android 11 somewhere in December.

BUT

I am still on the JULY security patch and from what I’ve read on the forums, the September update should have been sent to devices over the past weeks. Even my Oneplus 6 has received the September update. I don’t really care when updates are late, but give us consumers updates on the updates, you know?

So now I’m wondering and I have two questions. 1: Are there other Oneplus 7 Pro users stuck in my July boat? Do I, and maybe others, need to worry about the safety of our devices? Then, 2: Is it worth to download the OxygenOS Updater and get this update, and future updates through that app, in terms of compatibility, safety, reliability?

I’m really happy with this phone, but I just wish the updates were consistent.

And it’s surprising to know that, AmazingCorn21 is not the only one to face this issue, and a lot of people are facing the same thing. Another user darkstarrising replied in the support of AmazingCorn21. He said,

Same here, really annoyed with the supposed “fast updates” on Oneplus. It is just marketing hype for the first year then the device is forgotten.

People on here will be like get Oxygen Updater. I do not get why I have to install a third party app to get updates! It is Oneplus’s job to push out timely updates.

Well, you can clearly see that the users are angry and it is not their fault. At the time of launch, OnePlus claimed that OnePlus 7 users will get fast updates. But, they are not keeping their promise and due to this users are angry. OnePlus should think about whether it can keep up to its promise before making an official commitment.

As of now, OnePlus hasn’t made any official statements regarding this issue. But, we are continuously tracking reports related to this issue  & will update you with more information whenever it arrives, so stay tuned! Follow our website to get technology updates as soon as we publish them.
