On September 8, 2023, 2K Games finally published this year’s NBA title. Available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows, NBA fans aren’t particularly thrilled with this one. Fans have been very vocal about the horrendous performance issues and lack of improvement from the previous game. Among the myriad of issues currently plaguing NBA 2K24, the “You’re Restricted From Using Communication Features” issue is giving players a hard time since they aren’t able to use the in-game voice chat due to this.
As per various reports, this issue is mostly affecting console players. No one knows what the main cause of this issue is, but one thing is for sure: it’s not an ideal situation for anyone. What makes this particular issue interesting is that it was present in previous NBA 2K games too. So, is there any fix for it? Let’s find out!
NBA 2K24 Voice Chat Not Working “You’re Restricted From Using Communication Features” Issue: Is there any fix yet
The developers haven’t released a fix so far, and as such, you will have to deal with this issue by following the potential workarounds below. Try these one by one and see if any of them are of help to you.
Disable console sharing –
Start the fixing process by disabling console sharing. Since this issue is mostly occurring on PlayStation consoles, players should go to Settings > User Accounts > Other. In there, you will find the “Console Sharing and Offline Play” option. Disable it, and then check whether the issue persists.
Check PSN server status –
As we stated earlier, this isn’t a new issue. Past 2K NBA games have also suffered from the same problem. And in those cases, one of the most common reasons behind this issue was the PlayStation Network being down. The same might be the case here. Since PSN has a dedicated server status website, you should go take a look there and see if it’s down or working fine.
In addition to this, you should also take a look at the game’s server status to get the latest updates. If the servers are down, you will have to wait until they are back online.
Restart –
If you haven’t already tried the restarting method, you should go ahead and do so. First, start by restarting the game. Next, boot up the game and see if the issue persists. If it is still there, then restart your console. There’s a good 50/50 chance that this method will resolve this issue. But if it doesn’t, then move on to the next workaround.
Let a friend invite you –
If you’ve got a friend playing the game, tell them to invite you in-game. Do note that you need to be in-game to accept the invite. Once you receive the invite, accept it, and you should bypass the voice chat restriction.
Log out every other account including the child account (if you have one) –
For some, the best way to resolve this issue was to simply log out of every other account on the console except for the current one. Child accounts are also a constant culprit behind this issue, so make sure to remove them. To start the process, press the PS button on your controller and then select Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Sign out. Keep removing accounts until only one main adult account remains signed in.
If you are an Xbox user, then press the Xbox button and go to Settings > Account > Family Settings. Inside, click on Manage family members, and you can now delete accounts from your console.
Turn off Parental Control –
Another major cause of this issue might be Parental Controls on your console. Turning it off is the best thing to do unless you really, really need to have it running.
To disable Parental Controls on a PS console:
- Go to Settings and select Family and Parental Controls.
- Next, click on PS5 Console Restrictions. You will be asked for a passcode. Enter the four-digit code for Parental Controls.
- After that, select “Parental Controls for New Users” and set it to “Don’t Restrict”.
- Additionally, if you want, you can go ahead and enable the “Temporarily Disable PS5 Console Restrictions” option.
Xbox console users can do the same by –
- Press the Xbox button on the controller and select Profile & System.
- Next, open Settings > Account > Family Settings. You will now find yourself in the family management section.
- Inside, you will come across four main options: My sign-in, security, and PIN, Manage family members, Family on the web, and Access Restrictions.
- Select Access Restrictions, and in the next window, change your parental control settings. Have the “Access to content” option switched to Unrestricted and uncheck all the suboptions below.
- Additionally, you can perform either a hard or soft reset of the console to get rid of parental controls.
That said, we hope you are able to fix this issue in NBA 2K24 by following the given workarounds. For more such interesting guides, make sure to follow DigiStatement. Also read: NBA 2K24 Scan Your Face Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
