This year’s NBA title saw its official release on September 8, 2023. Simply titled NBA 2K24, this one isn’t looking so good. Critics and fans aren’t satisfied with both gameplay decisions and the optimization of the game. The reception has been so negative that, as of now, NBA 2K24 is one of the most negatively rated games on Steam. But all this hasn’t stopped many diehard fans of the series from playing it. However, due to issues like “You’re restricted from using communication features” to User data corruption error and such, even the little amount of fun that players were getting is turning stale for them. And now this “a problem has been encountered that prevents gameplay from continuing” issue is just another frustrating addition to the game’s myriad of technical problems.
This issue in particular isn’t exclusive to NBA 2K24. Past games have also encountered the same issue. And judging from all that, most of it seems to be tied to the game’s servers. However, other causes are still at play here. Players encounter this issue in almost every game and want a fast fix. Restore the controller keybindings–
A Steam user mentioned that restoring the controller keybinds to their default settings made the issue go away. If you haven’t tried this method, we suggest you do so. You can do so via the in-game settings, where the keybinds to specific actions can be changed. If you have set the keybinds as per your preference, restore them to default and then check whether the issue persists.
Check the server status –
As stated earlier, this is one of those issues that has plagued the NBA 2K titles for a long time. It’s mainly tied to server-related problems, so we highly recommend you check the game’s server status. Unlike most other games, NBA 2K24 does have a dedicated server status website. Restart the game –
There’s a good enough chance that a simple restart would be able to serve as a temporary fix of sorts. Just don’t expect it to be permanent. Try this out, and if you still encounter this issue, then move on to the next method.
Repair NBA 2K24 –
Although we can’t say if this will completely resolve this issue, you should still give it a try. All repairing does is fix any corrupted or missing game files, so don’t worry about losing your progress or anything like that. To do this, open Steam and head to the library. Next, find NBA 2K24 and right-click on it to select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
Update the game –
So far, NBA 2K24 has had two patches. If you haven’t downloaded them, go ahead and do so. The game is still a technical mess, so expect more patches and hotfixes in the upcoming weeks.
Reinstall –
Finally, if none of the workarounds provide any meaningful result, consider uninstalling the game and reinstalling it. After this, launch the game, plug in your controller, and then check if the issue persists.
