Mortal Kombat 1 Easy Fatalities Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet

With Mortal Kombat 1 releasing on September 19, 2023, the fighting game community has only Tekken 8 left to wait for. As for MK1 itself, the game’s reception from both critics and fans has been mostly on the positive side. However, there are complaints with regard to Nitara’s voice acting and some other technical aspects of the game. Coming to the topic of issues in the game, there are a lot. And this guide will be dealing with the “easy fatalities not working” one.

Fatalities are one of the most unique aspects of the Mortal Kombat series. Gory and fun to watch, these have served as the series’ “wow factor” ever since the first Mortal Kombat game. Now, for those unaware of what Easy Fatalities are, they are exactly what you think. Normal fatalities require you to press certain character-specific buttons, but for Easy Fatality, you only need to press two button presses. These are helpful to those who don’t want to memorize every single movie set and just want to see characters performing fatalities on one another. But due to an unknown cause, easy fatalities aren’t working properly. So, is there a fix? Let’s find out!

As of now, players will have to use the following workarounds mentioned in this guide, as official fixes are yet to arrive. Try these out and hope that one of them is able to fix this issue.

Check your tokens –

Easy fatalities can only be used if you’ve got Easy Fatality Tokens. And since these are limited, you should regularly check if you’ve exhausted all of them or not. The only way to get more Easy Fatality Tokens is by opening up your wallets. So, if you want to use Easy Fatalities more, buy those tokens with real money.

Restart the game –

Sometimes a glitch or a bug can make things hard to do in games. A quick fix would be to simply restart the game. Try this and see if you are able to use easy fatalities. Additionally, if restarting the game doesn’t work, try doing the same with your PC or console.

Swap controllers –

If you’ve got a sufficient number of tokens but are still unable to perform an easy fatality, then the problem might lie with your controller since you need to press certain buttons to execute one. If you’ve got another controller lying around, connect it, and then check if you are able to perform an easy fatality with this new one.

Repair the game –

It could also be that MK1 is missing some crucial files, resulting in issues like this. The only way to fix this is to simply launch Steam and then go to Library. After that, find Mortal Kombat 1 and right-click on it to select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Restart the PC after the verification process is complete.

Unlock second fatality –

All fighters’ second fatality is locked until you yourself unlock it. Maybe the reason why easy fatality isn’t working is that you are trying to perform a locked-second fatality. The only way to get second fatalities is to level up a combatant’s Fighter Mastery rank. Each combatant has different level requirements for unlocking a second fatality, so keep increasing mastery rank until you get the second fatality for your chosen character. However, if you already know the correct button prompts and position of a locked second fatality, then you can even use the second fatality before unlocking it. But that’s for normal fatalities, not easy ones.

Check your position –

In order to execute an easy fatality, you need to be on the correct spot. Some fatalities require you to be far from the enemy, while others require you to be close. So, it would be better to check where your chosen fighter’s correct position is for performing an easy fatality.

So, did any of these workarounds help in fixing this annoying issue? We certainly hope so. Incidentally, if you are encountering controller-related issues in the game, check out this guide.
