Hexworks’ Lords of the Fallen is a great Soulslike title. But it falters at the most important thing—performance. The reviews have been quite positive when it comes to the gameplay aspect of the title, but it’s at the general performance and optimization where everything starts to turn bad. Among its many issues, the “crashing at character creation screen” issue is a troubling one. So, we have featured this guide sharing details on the same.
The issue here speaks for itself. For lots of players, the game seems to crash during the character creation screen, as it displays a bunch of fatal errors and whatnot. This is quite bad. Having issues like this right at the beginning of a player’s in-game journey does no good for a game’s long-term future. So, is this issue fixable? Continue reading to find out!
Lords of the Fallen (2023) Crashing At Character Creation Screen: Is there any fix yet
At the time of writing, Hexworks hasn’t acknowledged this issue yet. So, for now, you will have to make do with the following workarounds.
Restart –
Before trying out other workarounds, we suggest you try the restarting method. Perform a restart of the game first and see if it helps in getting rid of this issue. If it doesn’t work, you can try restarting your PC or console. If the issue remains, switch to another workaround.
Verify files –
Issues such as this are a common sight when the game happens to have some of its files missing or corrupted. But this can be fixed. However, before we share the method with you, know that this is mainly for PC users, as console players don’t have this option.
Epic Games –
- Open Epic Games Launcher and from the left-hand panel, select Library.
- Click on the three dots on the game’s tile and select Manage > Verify.
- Start the game once the verification process is over.
Steam –
- Open Steam and click on Library.
- Now, right-click on Lords of the Fallen and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
- After the process is done, restart your PC and then launch the game.
Update drivers –
Always keep your GPU drivers updated. Get those either from the official NVIDIA or AMD website or by downloading and installing them from the companion app. Once the latest available drivers are installed, launch the game and see if you still encounter this issue.
Try administrator mode –
If you have been running the game without admin access, then try the opposite of it. Right-click on the game’s .exe file and select Properties. In the new window, switch to the Compatibility tab and checkmark the “Run this program as an administrator” option located below. Finish the process by clicking on Apply and OK. Now, start the game and check if the crash still occurs.
Update Windows –
For one player, updating Windows worked wonders as doing so fixed the issue for them. So, in case you haven’t tried this method, do so immediately. However, if you have already updated your Windows OS and failed to bypass this issue, try the next method.
Move the game to SSD –
While HDD is supported, the developers have SSD as the preferred option for the game’s installation. And honestly, running any big title on HDD these days is not really recommended. So, make sure to install the game on your SSD. Also, check the following minimum requirements mentioned below to know whether your PC can run the game properly or not.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- OS: Windows 10 64bit
- Processor: intel i5 8400 | AMD Ryzen 5 2600
- Memory: 12 GB RAM
- Graphics: 6GBs VRAM | NVIDIA GTX-1060 | AMD Radeon RX 590
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 45 GB available space
- Additional Notes: 720p Low Quality Settings | SSD (Preferred) | HDD (Supported)
So, were you able to fix this issue? However, be warned that this isn’t the only issue plaguing the game right now. There’s also the “DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG Error Code 887A0006” thing. Lucky for you, we have a guide just for that. Also, don’t forget to follow DigiStatement for more guides like this.
