Humankind gives players a very simple task, rewrite history to your liking by making major decisions throughout the narrative of human history and combining cultures to create unique civilizations, the game was recently released on August 17, 2021, and is available on Steam, Epic Games, Microsoft store as well as Stadia. Players have already run into some bugs and issues where Humankind is crashing and not working for which the developers have issued “master fixes”, we will list these fixes in this article.
Humankind developed by Amplitude Studios is a strategy, turn-based game which consists of 60 historical cultures which you can combine to create your own unique civilization, each culture is supposed to bring a special layer to the game, making the outcomes endless in the game, it also consists of a fame factor which will allow you to leave your mark on the world.
Every deed you accomplish, the moral choice you make, battle won will help shape your “fame” and hence the player with the most fame will win the game.
Fixes for game crashes and not working
Many players are running into issues such as Humankind is crashing and not working properly, the devs have given a few workarounds which we have listed below.
OpenDev Beta users Delete previous profile
If you participated in the OpenDev Beta then delete your previous profile as it is said to be the cause for players running into issues with the game.
You can delete the profile from “My Documents” and then the “Humankind” file
Force Vulcan Mode
To enable this, redirect yourself to the steam library and then follow the steps below
- Right Click on Humankind
- Select “Properties”
- Select the “General” tab
- Scroll down to the “Launch Options”
- in the launch, options add the following command line
- -force-vulkan
- close the window and launch the game
Disable or Uninstall Audio Enhancement
Audio Enhancement tools may lead to crashes and issues when playing the game, it is suggested to disable or uninstall them, laptops such as MSI will have Nahmic installed, Sonic Sound 2 on Asus, Sonic Suite, Razer chroma, you should disable whichever one you have and then relaunch the game.
Update Graphic Card Drivers
For Nvidia Graphic Cards
- Open Nvidia Geforce experience or install it from here
- and select the “Drivers” tab and then install any update available or check for updates if none are displayed
For AMD Graphic Cards
- Open AMD Catalyst Control Center by right-clicking on your desktop
- Once opened then the bottom left should display any drivers available for download
Once installed/updated drivers, restart your system and then launch the game.
Laptop users should force their Nvidia/AMD cards
To ensure that the game uses your Nvidia or AMD graphic card instead of the integrated GPU,
- open Nvidia Control Panel or AMD CCC
- Select your preferred GPU to be the universally used Graphics component
Run Steam and Humankind as administrator
- Go to “Program files” from your C drive
- Select “Steam”
- Right-click on Steam and select “Properties”
- Select the “Compatibility” tab
- check “Run this program as an administrator”
Similarly for Humankind
- Go to program files
- go to Steam
- Select “steamapps” and then “Common”
- Right-click on Humankind
- Select the “Compatibility” tab and then check “Run this program as an administrator”
Verify Integrity of cache
- From the steam library
- Right click on Humankind
- Select “Properties”
- Select the “Local file” tab and then click “Verify Integrity of software files”
- This will check whether you have all the files installed, if any are missing they will be prompted in a pop up and then reinstalled automatically.
Reinstalling Files
DirectX
- from your C drive go to “Program Files (x86)”
- Select “Steam”
- Select “Steamapps”
- go to “Common” and then “SteamworksShared”
- from there open “_CommonRedist” and then “Directx”
- run dxsetup.exe to reinstall Directx , once done then restart your system
VCRedist
follow the same file path for Directx but from “_CommonRedist” select “vcredist”
click and run the following files,
- 2012\vc_redist.x64.exe
- 2013\vc_redist.x64.exe
- 2019\vc_redist.x64.exe
Dot Net
Similarly, for Dot net, follow the same file path but from “_CommonRedist” select “DotNet” and then open 4.5.2
Run NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe
Restart your system once installed properly
