RimWorld is a community-building simulator. Like Stardew Valley, it has various mechanics centered around you building and surviving in a flourishing community. It is set on a planet full of hostility and other dangers. Similar to Stardew Valley, the weather, the terrain, the creatures, and other factors will all figure into how and where you set up your community. In addition to this, it has an in-depth system for feeding and taking care of livestock and other people. In this article, we are going to be taking a look at How to feed animals in RimWorld.
Animals are a general category in RimWorld. This refers to the entire range of creatures you can have living in your community. It can be pets like the game’s idea of dogs and cats or it can be other livestock, although there is no special classification in this game and they are all categorized as animals. The only difference between livestock and pets is that livestock can be put in pens and made to graze or eat automatically. Because of this, their tasks can be assigned to members of the community and they can be harvested for their resources regularly.
How to feed animals in RimWorld?
Feeding Animals in RimWorld is no challenging task. It is just a meticulous exercise. Because different animals have different requirements in terms of diet and how often they get hungry, you will need to pay attention to feeding them. There are 4 main categories of animals in RimWorld. These 4 categories are;
- Herbivores.
- Carnivores
- Ominvores and
- Dendrovores.
Together, these 4 types of animals make up all animals in the game. There are subtle differences in their hunger and eating habits.
1). Herbivores;
These will eat any hay, grass or other vegetarian crops available within their area. Because they are herbivores, they must be assigned to areas with a lot of grass or be kept topped up on hay.
2). Carnivores;
As the name suggests, they will only eat meat. Because of this, they have to be kept in areas where there is good availability of meat so that they don’t run out of food.
3). Omnivores;
These will eat either meat or vegetarian food. They will also consume the corpses of other creatures on the ground. These animals can be kept where there is a good supply of either meat or vegetarian food.
4). Dendrovores;
These are basically herbivores but will also eat trees as part of their diets. They can be kept in areas with rich trees and crops/ grass to keep them fed.
There is also a method to make animals eat prepared meals. All animals will eat prepared meals. This can be good for you because through this you can supersede their diets. For example, although herbivores eat only plant and vegetarian food, they can be made to eat meat if the meat is made into kibble. This way, you can carefully manage your resources and make sure that all animals are always well fed.
The basics of feeding animals in RimWorld is to basically monitor them and make sure they are being given food that is in their diets. If you keep doing this or assign the role to one of your community members, they will be taken care of well. They can be made to eat food in their diets by people in the community as well if you want to delegate tasks but you will still have to assign consignments of food to their areas.
