RimWorld is a sandbox world-building game. In this game, you have to build and manage a community of people. Additionally, you have to grow and prosper in this settlement in a hostile landscape that you are faced with. It is similar to games like Cities Skyline where you have to manage a community and survive. In this game, your most important asset will be the colonists you have living in your settlement. In this article, we are going to be taking a look at how to get more colonists in RimWorld.
Surprisingly, there are multiple ways to get a healthy-sized population going in RimWorld. There are multiple storytellers in-game that will offer colonists and keep the colonists at a reasonable number but this varies from storyteller to storyteller. There are typically 3 aspects to population in-game; Minimum desired population, Maximum desired population, and Critical desired population. Each of these 3 is a fixed number based on the storyteller and will influence the events in-game accordingly. For example, there will be events to reduce your population if you reach or exceed the Critical desired population. Events to increase population will transpire if you go below the Minimum desired population and so on. It is, therefore, entirely your choice on how many people you want to host as colonists in your settlement.
How to get more colonists in RimWorld?
There are a surprising number of ways in which you can get colonists in this game. The most basic of these rely on pure luck and the others on some questionable ethical choices. In this list, we are going to be detailing all the ways in which you can increase or decrease your current population count in-game;
1). In-Game Events.
This is the most basic way of getting colonists. You can find fleeing prisoners, escape pods, other rescue calls, and so on in-game. If you respond to any of these events and manage to rescue a colonist, they will join your settlement and increase the population there.
2). Slave Trade.
Yes, this is an option in-game. You can legitimately purchase salves from the traders and other merchants that keep coming to your settlement. This is very ethically questionable, but it is a way to get more colonists.
3). Converting Enemy Prisoners.
When you are raided by enemies in RimWorld, you can take prisoners if you knock someone out. You can then convert them to your side of the camp and they will join the colony.
4). Cryo-Pods.
There are sites called Ancient Dangers on every RimWorld Map. Clear the enemies out of this site and you will find populated cryo pods. Open them and convert the hostiles to join your colony.
5). Taming Wild Humans and taking people prisoner.
This is the last option on this list. In this game, you may encounter men or women that have never interacted with a human before and are technically wild. You can choose to tame them as animals and involve them in your settlement. The other way is to take traders and other friendly visitors prisoner. This may result in angering the remainder of their factions, however.
