Google Play Music is shutting down: It is official

YouTube Music- the only music platform on Wear OS

Google smartwatches use Wear OS software that provides smartphone features in their premium watches. One of the most used features by any smartwatch user is playing music during work-out and jogging. Google smartwatches allowed users to enjoy music through the very popular Google Play Music app.

Google Play Music gave Wear OS users the liberty of choosing whether or not to carry their smartphones for a work-out session. All that users need to do was connect their headphones to the Google smartwatch and listen to their favorite music.

But It has been officially confirmed that Google Play Music can no longer be used or downloaded on smartwatches running on Wear OS. This is a massive drawback for users who are using or planning to purchase Google smartwatches. The official announcement was made by a Google Employee that briefly informed about the service.

Many wonder why such friendly a feature is being removed without anything good but just disadvantages. But the reason behind the shutdown of Google Play Music on Wear OS is addressed indirectly on the official post. The update will widely lead to the promotion of the latest service from Google- YouTube Music.

So, if you will want to listen to music, just Google smartwatch wouldn’t be enough. You will have to carry your smartphone around connected to YouTube Music. Wonder what’s the use of smartwatch then? You will be able to remotely control the YouTube Music app like change songs, playlists, volume control, and much more with the help of your watch.
