What are Ashes of War in Elden Ring?
Simply put, Ashes of War in Elden Ring is something like an enchantment, but also more than that. While enchantments cannot be removed or applied to a different weapon, Ashes of War can be changed freely at will. It adds an affinity to the weapon that increases certain stats, but also lowers others, it can also replace the current weapon skill if one has none, with a present skill.
Do remember that the Ashes of War are bound to certain gear and weapon types like thunderbolt can only be applied on melee weapons and parry skill only works on shields and certain armaments.
How to use Ashes of War?
A player can acquire Ashes of War in specific hidden dungeons or by defeating certain bosses. Once you acquire the ashes of your choice, head to the site of grace at any of the fast travel locations, you’ll see the Ashes of War option in the menu, select it and it will take you to the window where you can apply it to the weapons you have in your inventory.
Hover over to the weapon and press LT/L2 and you can apply the Ashes of War. When you select any, you can see the changed stats as represented by the blue color. Press LT/L2 to use the power and if you wish to change it, go back to the site of grace and you can just equip a new one. Depending on your build, you have to experiment with Ashes of War and how they can be effective for you.
