In football, both real and virtual, speed is often the name of the game. In action FPS games, whether you’re navigating through fast-paced action sequences or aiming for that perfect headshot, having a higher refresh rate can be a game-changer. The same can be said for sports-based games, including EA Sports FC 24. However, for some players, the thrill of high refresh rates has remained elusive. The game’s refresh rate option has been reported to be locked at 60 Hz, limiting the gameplay experience to 60 frames per second (FPS), and players with capable enough systems and monitors are yearning for more. So, in this article, we’ll delve into this refresh rate issue, explore its impact, and provide potential workarounds that players have been experimenting with to break free from the 60Hz barrier in EA Sports FC 24. Therefore, if you are dealing with a similar situation, read this guide for more details.
EA Sports FC 24, though still in early access, has already started frustrating players with numerous bugs and glitches. Like with any EA game, not everything is perfect on the pitch, and in EA FC 24, some players have noticed that their in-game refresh rate option is firmly locked at 60 Hz. But why does the refresh rate matter so much to gamers? Well, imagine you’re in a crucial penalty shootout or a tense one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. The difference between spotting that tiny opening and reacting swiftly can be the key to victory. Higher refresh rates, often 144Hz or 240Hz, offer smoother animations and more fluid motion, reducing motion blur and input lag. These benefits can provide a competitive edge, especially in fast-paced games like EA Sports FC 24. So, how do you fix this issue?
EA Sports FC 24 Refresh Rate Locked at 60Hz Issue: Is there any fix yet
While there isn’t an official fix for this issue, Community Manager EA_Darko has responded to the problem. It’s a promising sign that the matter has been noticed, but it remains to be seen whether the concerns have been relayed to the developers for a comprehensive fix. However, if you didn’t already know, the game will run on 60FPS on PS5 and not on 120FPS.
But, if you are encountering the locked refresh rate issue in the game on your PC, there are some potential workarounds for you to try. Just keep in mind that they are just potential fixes and as such, are not guaranteed to work for everyone.
Kickoff and restart
A rather peculiar workaround was suggested by izibane on Steam. We cannot confirm if this works, but you can still try it. So, first, they advised players to adjust (if that option is not grayed out) the Refresh Rate in the Display Configuration tab in the game’s settings. After this, play a kick-off match, exit the match, quit the game entirely, and relaunch it. This sequence should unlock the locked refresh rate.
Editing Config file
This workaround was suggested by roonelos and it involves making changes to the game’s .ini file. Now, on Windows, you can typically find the FCSETUP.ini file for EA Sports FC 24 in the following directory: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\Fc 24. Just replace <YourUsername> with your actual Windows username. Once you locate this file, you can open it with a text editor like Notepad. Press Ctrl+F to search for “60 Hz” and change that value to the refresh rate of your monitor. After this, save the changes and launch the game.
Update GPU/Run the game via the dedicated GPU/Run as Admin
If you have a laptop or PC with both integrated and dedicated graphics (like NVIDIA or AMD) and have not updated the drivers for the dedicated GPU, head to the official website of your graphics card manufacturer and look for the latest drivers for your graphics card. Make sure to download and install the latest update. After that, type “Graphics” in the Windows search box. Now, select the first result, and you will be taken to the Graphics Settings menu. Now, from the list of installed programs, select EA Sports FC 24, click on Options, and set it to “High Performance”. Finally, before launching the game, right-click on its .exe file, followed by selecting Properties. In the Compatibility tab, select the Run the game as administration and Disable Fullscreen Optimization options. Doing so should fix the FPS lock issue in the game.
Disable/Enable V-Sync via in-game settings and GPU’s support software
Via in-game Settings: Find the V-Sync (Vertical Synchronization) option in the Display Configuration tab of the game’s settings menu. Turning it off should unlock the refresh rate option. After that, you need to turn off Vsync via your GPU’s support software. Steps for the same are mentioned below:
GeForce Experience:
- Press the Windows button on your keyboard.
- In the search bar, type “Nvidia Control Panel” and press enter to launch it.
- In the Nvidia Control Panel window, look for “Manage 3D settings” on the left-hand side and click on it.
- Under the “Global Settings” tab, find the “Vertical Sync” option.
- If it’s enabled, click on the drop-down menu next to it and select “Off” to disable V-Sync.
- Finally, click the “Apply” button at the bottom right corner to save your changes.
AMD Radeon:
- Open AMD Radeon on your PC.
- Next, click on the “Gaming” tab.
- Look for the setting called “Wait for Vertical Refresh” in the list of options.
- Click on the drop-down button next to “Wait for Vertical Refresh”.
- Set it to “Off” unless there is an option for “Application-Specific”, in which case, choose the application-specific setting.
- Save the changes.
Now, launch the game, and then check whether the issue persists. Another player recommended turning On/Off Freesync and then checking if the issue is fixed. So, give this a try.
Set the in-game Frame Limit to Unlimited and try changing the Resolution/Display Mode
Within the game settings, in the Display configuration tab, you will see the Frame Rate option. Set it to “No Limit” to allow the game to run at the highest refresh rate your monitor supports. You can also try and experiment with different resolutions and display modes in the game settings. Sometimes, changing these settings can help unlock higher refresh rates. So cycle through Borderless, Windowed, and Fullscreen to see if you are able to unlock the refresh rate lock.
Alter Windows Display Setting Refresh Rate
Right-click on your desktop and select “Display settings”. Scroll down, and under the “Advanced display settings” option, click on “Display adapter properties”. Now, go to the “Monitor” tab and change the refresh rate to a different value than the one already selected. After that, launch the game and see if you are able to change the refresh rate.
At last, do not forget that EA Sports FC 24 is currently in early access, and some technical issues may persist. While workarounds exist to address the refresh rate locked at 60 Hz problem, it’s possible that waiting for the full release and subsequent updates may fix this issue once and for all. So, keep an eye on official updates from the developers for news on bug fixes and improvements. Well, for the latest information and updates on everything gaming-related, stay tuned to DigiStatement.
