Alliance Dota 2 roster manager Maria Gunina noted that the absence of registered teams for the open qualifiers for the first Dota Pro Circuit tournaments can be easily explained. She shared her opinion on her personal Telegram channel.
She explained the first reason for the lack of mass interest in participating in the DPC by the reduction in the number of casual players in Dota 2. She also noted that even those who want to participate are likely to give preference to the holidays.
Maria Gunina:
“It is not at all surprising that no one is registering for open qualifications. And that’s why.
1. It’s not news to anyone that the number of casual Dota players is constantly falling. It was 5 years ago that we had grids for hundreds of teams, and now the shop is closed
2. Of course, amateur stacks could not die out completely, and there will always be people willing to play with pros. But look closely at the dates of announcements and qualifications. The drinking contingent is now busy with completely different things. No respect for our culture. And for the sake of the Chinese New Year, by the way, the league itself is being moved.
It follows from this that qualifications are now being held for professionals: former, current and aspiring. And you need to understand the following.”
Gunina noted that many professional teams and stacks have not yet collected rosters, so mass registration should be expected in the last days before the start of qualifiers. In addition, many are counting on an invite at a later stage.
Maria Gunina:
“3. Many simply do not have ready-made teams. Petya wants to play with Vasya, but Vasya is waiting for “Daring Beavers” to choose between him and Vanya, “Daring Beavers”, of course, gravitate towards Vanya, but Vanya is on a contract with “Raspberry Bulls”, so Vasya does not seem so bad option … In short, everyone is waiting for everyone and will wait until the last minute before the registration closes. Or maybe someone will not even have time to register and will cry on Twitter. You will see!
4. Those who have decided on the composition, rely on an invitation to the closed qualifier. Let’s be honest – there are no obvious candidates. And a number of non-obvious ones are in no hurry to register in open ones. Of course, you can register and then not come if you still get an invite. But you know, registering on the ESL website without a compelling need is another challenge. Or, God forbid, restore the old account or bind Steam. Nobody wants to mock themselves like that.
So we believe, we hope, we wait, and we are not surprised at anything, yeah.”
The open qualifiers for the first Dota Pro Circuit tournaments will start on January 5. As of the morning of January 3 in the CIS and Europe, one team was registered for them.
