Mojang continues to expand the Minecraft IP, this time with yet another new release – Minecraft Legends. Developed by Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive, Minecraft Legends pickaxes its way through all the major platforms including the Switch on April 18th. Yes, that’s right!! Today’s the day, fans of the franchise get to witness another “legend” (pun intended) in the making. Published by Xbox Game Studios, Minecraft Legends is an RTS(real-time strategy) title that takes inspiration from games like Age of Empires, Sacrifice, and Pikmin. As long-time fans of the franchise and newcomers alike get to play the game, some have been wondering if it requires an internet connection to play, or if the game can even be played offline without one.
More than a decade old, Minecraft has become a serious juggernaut in the video game industry and even the larger entertainment industry for that matter. The onset of Covid-19 also helped in shooting its popularity to the skies and today, it remains one of the most actively-played games worldwide. How will the popularity of Minecraft affects Minecraft Legends will be interesting to see, as Mojang tries to branch out towards other genres too with titles like these. Now, with Minecraft Legends releasing, it’s time we find out if the game can be played offline without an active internet connection.
Can you play Minecraft Legends Offline without an Internet Connection?
Unlike Minecraft, Minecraft Legends can’t be played offline. It requires you to have a constant internet connection in order for you to play the game. Although the game includes single-player gameplay in its list of features, you need to have an internet connection if you want to experience the campaign.
Minecraft Legends also include competitive multiplayer and campaign co-op. Modes that necessitate the internet. But, why did Mojang decide to not allow players to experience the game without an internet connection? That is something we don’t know yet.
Game developers have been recently imposing the requirement of having a consistent internet connection to play their games, even when they happen to be single-player titles. Some studios do it to check if the player has the legit version of the game, while others use it for security purposes. What reason Minecraft Legends has is unknown to us at this point. We will be sure to update this article if Mojang decides to make the game playable offline.
