The Beholder series of games, while niche, have been quite good at what they set out to do. The series started with the release of Beholder in 2016 and since then has seen two more entries, with the latest one being Beholder 3, releasing in 2022. However, even with three games already out, it seems that fans aren’t satisfied and are looking for the next Beholder game to be released.
Fans of the Beholder series are still waiting for the perfect Beholder game to be released. While all Beholder titles released so far have ranged from good to OK, none have been regarded as a “perfect” game. And that’s something fans of the series expect from the next Beholder game. But for that to happen, you need to know, at least, that the game is indeed in development. So, without much further ado, let’s get right into the details.
Beholder 4 Release Date for PC, Xbox & PS5
As of now, we are yet to get any news or information related to Beholder 4’s release date or its development details. It’s really unfortunate since fans certainly love the series and have been wanting to get the next installment. However, as of right now, there’s nothing that hints at Beholder 4 being in development. But, even if it’s under development, the game won’t see the light of day until 2026, considering the 4-year gap between Beholder 2 and 3.
In case you already didn’t know, the first two Beholder titles were developed by the Siberian studio – Warm Lamp Games. But, then for the third title, publisher Alawar Entertainment decided to hire the Berlin-based indie studio – Paintbucket Games. While the previous two titles in the series were good and received a positive reception from the critics, the same couldn’t be said about the latest entry, Beholder 3. The main criticism was around the game not being able to be unique and stand out from the first two games and instead rehashing the elements of those two titles into something already done before. Suffice it to say that Beholder 3 was an unfortunate fall for the series.
While fans might want Beholder 4, the ultimate decision lies with Alawar. For there to be a Beholder 4, the sales need to be good for Beholder 3. Unfortunately, the publisher hasn’t shown any sales numbers for Beholder 3. However, from what we can gather by looking at the Steam Charts page of the game, it’s safe to say that Beholder 3 wasn’t certainly selling like hotcakes. However, it could also be that Beholder 4 is already in development. At the end of the day, these are all just mere speculations from our side. As for the platforms on which Beholder 4 will be released, we are also unsure about that. All three Beholder games so far have been multiplatform, so there’s a good chance that if Beholder 4 releases, it will be available on all major platforms, including Windows, PS, Xbox, and maybe the Nintendo Switch (if it stays relevant by then).
