Baldur’s Gate 3, for the most part, is keeping its player base happy since Larian Studios has been releasing regular updates that attempt to fix almost all known issues at a time. Now, that does not mean the game is entirely free of bugs and errors. Recently, a number of players are not able to play the game due to the joining failed error. So, is there a fix for this yet? Let’s find out!
If you are playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on your PS5, chances are that you have encountered the “joining failed” error when attempting to load a save file. The error message states, “Joining failed: something went wrong on our end; please try again”. This error prevents players from accessing their saved games, even when they are not trying to play online or connect with other players. That said, if you are encountering the same problem, here’s everything you need to know.
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Joining Failed Error: Is there any fix yet
Well, as of now, there is no official fix. But when compared to other studios, Larian Studios is known for listening to the feedback of players and regularly updating the game to fix known issues. As such, the studio acknowledged the problems related to crashing faced by PS5 players. So, we can hope that a fix is underway. But until then, the player base has come up with some workarounds that might get you back in the game. We have listed them below!
Restart Your PlayStation console
Restarting your PlayStation is a basic troubleshooting step. It can help clear temporary system glitches that may be causing the “joining failed” error in the game. To do this, simply power off your PS5 completely, wait for a minute or two and then power it back on. Now, launch the game, try loading the save file, and check whether the issue persists.
Change DNS Settings
Sometimes, DNS (Domain Name System) issues can affect online connectivity. You can try changing your PS5’s DNS settings to use a different DNS server. To do this:
- Go to “Settings” on your PS5.
- Select “Network“, then “Settings“.
- Choose your internet connection. Now, select “Advanced Settings” and then “DNS Settings“.
- Now, choose “Manual” and input the DNS server addresses you want to use.
- Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8.
- Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4.
- After changing DNS settings, restart your PS5 and try launching the game again.
Disconnect or Switch Internet Connection
The “joining failed” error may be related to online connectivity. Disconnecting or switching your internet connection temporarily can help bypass this issue and allow you to access your saved game in offline mode. If this does not work, try switching to a wired connection or a mobile hotspot.
Check PSN Status
Sometimes, connectivity issues can be related to the PlayStation Network (PSN) itself rather than the game. As Larian itself acknowledged, PSN is primarily to blame for problems with the PS5 version of BG3. If PSN is experiencing downtime or server issues, it can affect your ability to connect to the game servers and lead to the “joining failed” error. To check the status of the PSN network, visit here. If the servers are indeed down, you will have to wait for them to come back online.
Online Visibility
If you have created a new world, setting its online visibility to closed might do the trick in solving this joining error, as it did for Syx, who then shared this workaround on Twitter (X). You can do so from the in-game Lobby Settings menu. Head to the Online Visibility option and set it to Closed. Also, do the same through the PS5 settings as well. Head to your PS5 profile settings, and click on Online Status, and set it to appear offline. After this, launch the game and check whether the issue persists. As shared by ADT4079, doing so fixed the issue for them, so it might fix it for you too.
Disable Cloud Syncing in BG3
By disabling the cloud syncing feature in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can avoid the error and prevent the game from attempting to synchronize your progress with cloud storage, as Nameisnick7 explained on the official BG3 forum. After disabling this feature, your saved game files will be stored locally on your PS5 instead. To disable Cloud Save in BG3, head to the settings menu of the game and select the Gameplay tab. Now, find the Cross-Save option and make sure to toggle it off.
Reinstall
And lastly, if none of the above-mentioned workarounds fix the issue, the last thing left to try is a fresh reinstallation of the game. So, uninstall the current copy and install it all over again.
Well, these are all the workarounds you can try until Larian Studios releases a new patch that fixes this issue. Well, if you found this guide helpful, make sure to follow DigiStatement for more reads like this. Read more: Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Lae’zel Romance bug: Is there any fix yet
