FromSoftware’s Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has finally been released on Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles after being formally announced back during the 2022 The Game Awards. And like in true FromSoftware fashion, this mainline entry to the Armored Core series is a hit with both critics and fans. However, as always, the PC port of the game has become a hub for major issues like the infinite loading screen. And among these, the whitescreen crash issue is also a major one.
As the name suggests, this issue leads to players encountering a white screen on their monitor, following which a crash of the game occurs. This has made the game unplayable for many, and as such, we have prepared this guide, which might just help you resolve this issue.
Armored Core 6 (AC6) Fires of Rubicon Whitescreen Crash Issue: Is there any fix yet
Currently, there are no official fixes for this particular issue. Hence, players will have to make do with the following workarounds for now at least:
Repair Armored Core 6 –
Let’s start with the workaround that has proven most effective, according to players. It seems like repairing the game will most likely fix the issue. To do this, open Steam and then head to the Library. Once there, look for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, and when found, right-click on it to select Properties. Next, select Installed Files > Verify the integrity of game files. Now, let Steam handle the rest.
Perform an EAC bypass –
Some players think that the issue is with the game’s Easy Anti-Cheat, which, to be honest, isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility. Thankfully, FormSoftware’s previous game, Elden Ring, had some issues with EAC too, and as such, the same fix that was applied to that game can be used here. All you need to do is:
- Start by creating a steam_appid.txt file in the game folder. If you performed a default installation of the game, then the game folder will be on the C: drive. Try the following path: C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON\Game
- Inside the newly created file should be its contents, where you need to put the app ID of the game: 1888160
- Once that’s done, launch the game through its exe rather than via Steam or a shortcut.
Run EAC with Windows 8 Compatibility mode –
For this workaround, you need to head to the game’s installation folder and find the EAC folder there. Now, inside this folder, right-click on the .exe file of the Easy Anti-Cheat engine and select Properties. After this, go to the Compatibility tab and select the Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8 option. Now, save the changes and check if the issue persists.
Set the launch options to Window Mode –
Players can also try to resolve this issue by modifying the launch option. To do that, open Steam and then navigate to Library. There, right-click on Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon and select Properties. Click on the General tab, and then on the right side of the screen, you will see Launch Option at the bottom. Type in “-windowed” in the text field there. Save your settings, and then launch the game.
Give admin privileges –
Since almost all games require admin rights to run properly, try doing the same with AC6. It’s pretty easy to do that if you don’t know how to do it. You just need to right-click on either the exe or the AC6 shortcut and select Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and then checkmark the “Run this program as an administrator” option. To finish the process, click on Apply and OK.
Update your GPU drivers –
The general advice for avoiding issues in games is to simply update your GPU drivers. In case you haven’t done so, we highly recommend you go to your GPU manufacturer’s official website and get the latest available drivers from there. Install it and then launch the game to see if the issue persists.
Set the resolution to a lower one –
If possible, we suggest you set the game’s resolution as low as possible. Chances are that doing so might just fix this issue. If you are unable to access the settings menu of the game due to this issue, you will need to modify the game’s config file. The steps to do the same are shared below:
- First, go to the following path: C:\Users\[YourUserNameFolder]\AppData\Roaming\ArmoredCore6, and find the config file. After you locate it, open it with Notepad.
- Once opened, replace the following lines as shared below:
<Resolution-WindowScreenWidth>1366</Resolution-WindowScreenWidth>
<Resolution-WindowScreenHeight>768</Resolution-WindowScreenHeight>
<Resolution-FullScreenWidth>1366</Resolution-FullScreenWidth>
<Resolution-FullScreenHeight>768</Resolution-FullScreenHeight>
<Resolution-BorderlessScreenWidth>1366</Resolution-BorderlessScreenWidth>
<Resolution-BorderlessScreenHeight>768</Resolution-BorderlessScreenHeight>
Note: We have selected the resolution to be 768p, but you can change it as per your preference. However, make sure to set a resolution that is lower than the native resolution of your monitor.
That said, we hope that the provided workarounds help you fix this issue in the game. For more guides on Armored Core 6, follow DigiStatement. Also, read: Armored Core 6 (AC6) Fires Of Rubicon: How to heal
