Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) How to enabledisable VSync, Motion Blur, & Bloom

Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) takes players into a world of adventure where survival in the face of prehistoric creatures and untamed wilderness is the primary goal. As this new title boasts the graphical prowess of Unreal Engine 5, players will inevitably seek to tailor their gaming experience to their preferences. VSync, Motion Blur, and Bloom effects are among the graphical elements players may wish to customize within the game. But how do you enable/disable these features in ASA? Continue reading to learn more.

While Motion Blur and Bloom settings can be found within the game, VSync is notably absent. This absence can lead to screen-tearing issues on capable setups, leaving players searching for ways to enable or disable VSync. Well, as always, we are here to guide you through the process of tweaking these graphical features in the game.

Ark Survival Ascended (ASA): How to enable/disable VSync, Motion Blur, & Bloom

Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) How to enabledisable VSync, Motion Blur, & Bloom

Let us first go through enabling/discussing Motion Blur and Bloom in ASA first. After that, we will discuss the various methods to enable/disable VSync.

Motion Blur and Bloom

Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) provides in-game settings to control Motion Blur and Bloom effects. All you have to do is head to the General tab in the Settings option from the main menu, and on the right column, you will see the toggles for both Motion Blur and Bloom.

Tweaking VSync

First of all, the frame rate option under the same menu where you found the toggle for Motion Blur and Bloom can also be used as a substitute for tweaking VSync. What you can do is set the Max Frame Rate to that of your monitor. For example, if your monitor supports a refresh rate of 60 Hz, set the maximum frame rate in ASA to 60 and likewise. This way, you can ensure that your gameplay remains smooth and, hopefully, jitter-free.

Modify the GameUserSettings.ini file

A savvy Reddit user shared insights on enabling VSync within ASA. By making specific modifications to the “gameusersettings.ini” file in the game’s installation directory, you might successfully activate VSync. The steps are as follows:

Note: This method is not guaranteed to work for all players, and it’s advisable to create a backup of the “gameusersettings.ini” file before making any adjustments.

  • Locate the “gameusersettings.ini” file on your system. This file is typically located in the following directory: C:(or the drive where Ark is stored)\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Ark Survival Ascended\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\Windows.
  • Here, open the “gameusersettings.ini” file using a text editor (Notepad).
  • Find the line “bUseVsync=False” and change it to “bUseVsync=True“.
  • Additionally, locate the line “vsyncmode=1” and alter it to “vsyncmode=0“.
  • Remember to save the file after implementing these changes.
Through your GPU’s Control Panel

You can also try to enable/disable Vsync through your GPU’s control panel. It does not matter if you are using Nvidia or AMD graphics cards; you can explore the options offered by your graphics card control panels to enable VSync. Follow the steps given below:

  • Nvidia Control Panel: Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel“. Within the “Manage 3D Settings” section, access “Program Settings“. Choose “Ark Survival Ascended” from the list of programs or add it manually. Locate the “Vertical Sync” option and set it to “On“.
  • AMD Radeon Software: Right-click on your desktop and open “AMD Radeon Software“. Navigate to the “Gaming” tab and select “Global Graphics”. Find the “Wait for Vertical Refresh” option and set it to “Always on” or “Enhanced Sync“.

Finally, considering that ASA is still in early access, the absence of an in-game VSync option is not surprising. We hope that the full release will include an in-game option to toggle VSync. Well, that is all the information we have to share on this matter. If you find this guide informative, make sure to bookmark DigiStatement for more such content.
