Counter Strike 2 input lag issue

Valve’s Counter Strike Global Offensive was a widely popular title among players, and now the game has moved on to an upgraded version: Counter Strike 2. CS2 was released on September 27, 2023, for players on PC. Just like its predecessor, Counter-Strike 2 has received a warm welcome from the fans. However, despite all the hype, the game does sometimes run into different errors and bugs that bother the players quite a lot. Something that we all hate in fast-paced FPS games is none other than lags. Of late, the input lag issue has been quite frequent in Counter-Strike 2, and players want to figure out a way to fix this problem. So, if you too are encountering a similar issue, consider reading this guide until the end for workarounds on the same.

The input lag issue in Counter Strike 2 has been troubling players for a while now, and they’re actively searching for fixes. Of course, this has resulted in a very poor experience since input lag in an FPS game is quite a serious issue. If the input from your mouse and keyboard is delayed, it will result in a high reaction time, and you cannot win gunfights with delayed input. Luckily, there are a few workarounds that you can try to solve this Counter Strike 2 input lag issue. So, without further ado, check out the potential workarounds.

Counter-Strike 2 Input Lag Issue: How to Fix?

Counter Strike 2 input lag issue

Check your network connectivity

The input lag issue can be triggered if your network isn’t strong enough. You can check the strength of your network on different online speed test websites. If you find that your connectivity is indeed weak, you can consider using a wired network to fix the issue or switch it to a different one.

Use console commands

Counter-Strike 2 allows the use of console commands, which you can use to fix the input lag issue. However, for this, you’ll have to enable the console commands first.

  • Launch the game and open the Settings menu by clicking on the gear icon at the top left corner of your screen.
  • Click on the Game tab to open it, and then scroll down.
  • Locate the “Enable Developer Console” option and turn it on.
  • Now, while you’re still in the game, press the tilde (~) key on your keyboard to open the developer console.
  • Type cl_interp “0.015625” and then hit enter. Then, type cl_updaterate 128 and press enter again. Finally, type cl_interp_ratio 1, hit enter, and run the game. See if the issue is fixed.
  • If the issue persists, then repeat the same steps. However, this time use cl_interp “0.03125” as the first command followed by the “cl_updaterate 128″ to fix the issue.

Set Counter Strike 2 as a priority in Task Manager

You can also try and fix the input lag issue by setting the application as a priority in your Task Manager.

  • Launch Counter Strike 2 and then press the Alt + Tab keys together to return to Desktop.
  • Now, right-click on the Start button and click on Task Manager from the drop-down menu.
  • Here, click on Details and then locate the CS2.exe file.
  • Right-click on the file, click on Priority, and set it to high.
  • Run the game and see if the issue persists.

Disable Multisampling Anti-Aliasing

You can try and disable the MSAA option from the in-game settings and see if that fixes the input lag issue.

  • Launch Counter Strike 2 and open the Settings menu by clicking on the gear icon at the top left corner of your screen.
  • Go to the Video tab and then open Advanced Video Settings.
  • Select Individual Preset Values.
  • Locate the Multisampling Anti-Ailiasing Mode option and set the value to None.

Enable Low Latency, and Disable Vsync via the Nvidia Control Panel

If you’re using a Nvidia GPU, then you can enable the Low Latency Mode on your Nvidia Control Panel.

  • Type Nvidia Control Panel on your Windows search box and open the first option.
  • Click on 3D Settings.
  • Select the Manage 3D Settings tab and click on Program Settings on the right side tab.
  • Select the CS2.exe file and scroll through the options. Now, enable the Low Latency Mode option, and make sure that VSync is disabled. After this, launch the game.
  • Check if the issue persists.

Disable Vsync via in-game settings

Vsync, although it provides a much smoother gaming experience when enabled, is usually the cause of input lag. So, if you are encountering input lag in CS2, the Vsync setting might be turned on in-game. So, head to the in-game settings menu and make sure that the Wait for Vertical Sync setting is set to Disabled.

Well, these are some of the fixes that you can try to solve the Counter-Strike 2 input lag issue. Hopefully, you can use this guide to solve the problem. For more such gaming-related content, stay tuned to DigiStatement!
