Samar Studio’s The Front was just released on October 11, 2023, and has been gaining traction slowly since then. Belonging to the populated open-world survival genre of games, it’s yet another new title under Steam’s Early Access program and is scheduled to stay that way for about twelve months. However, until its official release, a lot of things need to be added and fixed. And right now, one of the major issues that needs to be dealt with is regarding the game’s servers.
Ever since the game’s release, many players have been unable to connect to the servers properly. Sometimes the servers are not visible at all, or at other times players are unable to join them even after selecting the Join button. Then there are instances where players will see their ping reach 9999 on a server. While unfortunate, such issues need to be fixed immediately. The developers do seem to be aware of these issues, so there’s hope for an official fix. But in the meantime, is there a way to bypass this issue? Continue reading to find out!
The Front Game Unable to Connect to Servers Issue: Is there any fix yet
Use the workarounds mentioned below and hope at least one of them proves effective enough. Skip a fix only if you’ve already tried it before.
Allow the game through the Firewall –
Firewall blocking internet access of a game for arbitrary reasons is a rare but known occurrence. So, you should ensure that this isn’t the case with The Front. To add the game to the exception list of the Firewall, follow the given steps:
- Open Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Firewall & Network Protection.
- In the next window, scroll down and click on Allow an app through Firewall.
- Now, click on the Change Settings button located at the top. Give admin access when prompted.
- In the list below, find The Front. In case it isn’t there, select the “Allow another app…” option to add the game by heading to its installation directory.
- Tick the Private and Public options beside The Front. End the process by clicking OK.
If you are using a third-party antivirus program, chances are that it has blocked the game’s internet access as well. So, either disable it when you play the game or add the game to its exception list.
Check server status –
Due to all these server issue shenanigans, the game has been going through consistent server maintenance. So, it is best that you check the server status before trying other workarounds. You can either follow the game’s official Twitter (X) handle or join the Discord server to get notified on anything related to this topic.
Install the latest updates –
Samar Studio just recently released a small update on October 13. This one adds a key bindings tab to the Custom Settings menu along with a bunch of optimizations and bug fixes. And yes, there are some optimizations around servers too. That’s why you should go and install this update and then launch the game to see if the issue persists. If it didn’t, wait for the upcoming updates which are expected to feature additional optimizations related to server connectivity.
Create your own private servers –
The game allows you to create your own private servers, and as such, we suggest you try creating one if you are still encountering server issues with the official ones. You can follow this guide here, and use it to make your own The Front server. Additionally, you can even rent a server for the game.
Use VPN –
Usually, we recommend disabling VPNs for our readers when it comes to dealing with server-related issues, but in this instance, we are suggesting the opposite. Right now, the game has only three servers available for these regions: Europe, North America, and Asia. So, if you happen to be somewhere else, expect a lot of connectivity and server issues. This is why using VPNs is your best choice here.
Use Ethernet –
It goes without saying that Ethernet will provide much better connectivity than whatever you get on Wi-Fi. One of the many causes behind this issue could be that your internet speed is not good enough. Connecting the Ethernet is supposed to mitigate that. Moreover, we recommend you also try restarting your router or even resetting it if the issue persists.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only issue players are facing right now. Many have been complaining about extreme blurriness in the game, and so here’s a guide that will help you deal with it.
