Starfield is great. No one’s denying this statement. Proper space RPGs are few and far between, so getting a game of this caliber is certainly a triumph for both RPG and space genre fans. As with other Bethesda titles, there are quite a lot of technical issues in Starfield, and most are related to the various quests in the game. Among these issues is also the War Relic quest’s “This individual is busy” bug.
This particular quest belongs to the United Colonies faction. As such, completing it is a must for many players. However, for some reason, there’s this bug that makes the player unable to interact with the war robot Kaiser as the game keeps showing the “This individual is busy” message. So, is there a fix for this? Let’s find out!
Starfield War Relic Quest “This individual is busy” Bug: Is there any fix yet
For now, players will have to satisfy themselves with the workarounds mentioned below. Bethesda is yet to release an official fix, so the following potential workarounds are your only options to deal with this issue:
Reload a previous save –
In cases like this, saving can help you a lot. If you’ve got a previous save, load it. Use the one closest to your current progress, as you won’t need to spend much time progressing the same levels again. After this, activate the quest and see if the issue still occurs.
Wait/sleep for about 24-hrs –
A good way of dealing with issues such as these is to simply go to your ship and then sleep for about 24 hours. This is in-game time. Once a full day has passed, head back to the mission area and see if you can interact with Kaiser or not.
Nudge the NPC –
This method worked for some players in The Audition quest, where the player was unable to interact with Briggs as the game kept showing the “Individual is busy” message. By using this method, players were able to finally talk with him. Essentially, what you do is pick up anything nearby—even a trashcan will suffice—and use the item to nudge the NPC for some distance. After a while, the NPC will start moving to get back to their designated position and allow you to interact with them.
Shoot at the NPC –
If the NPC doesn’t react to anything, showing them the might of a gun can do the trick. Just injure the NPC a little and don’t try to kill them outright. If the NPC reacts, then it’s all good. However, if the issue still persists, try the next workaround.
Fast travel to another place –
Another workaround that has worked for fixing bugs in other quests is fast-traveling to another place and then returning. You can fast-travel anywhere. Once you do that, get back to the mission place. Now see if the “Individual is busy” message still shows or not. Additionally, try dismissing your companions and going solo for this quest. Sometimes this helps too.
Use console commands –
If nothing else works, then you can use console commands to skip the entire quest or even certain parts of it. However, using console commands comes at the cost of your achievements getting disabled for the current save.
- To use the console command, press the tilde (~) key.
- Now, first, you need to get your current quest ID. Since this quest is related to the United Colonies, type in the following: help UC 4 QUST
- This will show you all UC-related quests and their IDS. Look for the War Relic quest and copy the ID. In case that command doesn’t work, type sqt and this will be all of the current quest targets. No matter which command you use, what you need is the quest id.
- Next, type in SQS (quest ID here) to get all the current quest stage lists. ShowQuestStages also works.
- To skip a quest stage, enter the following: SetStage (Quest id here) (the quest stage you want to skip). This will allow you to change the progression of the quest. Use the SQO command followed by the questid to get the correct quest stage ID and enter it.
- If you just want to finish the quest instead of going through all this hassle, simply type in: CompleteQuest (quest id here).
- To start the next quest, enter: StartQuest (next quest ID here).
