Starfield In Memoriam Quest Bug

Bethesda is releasing their latest action/RPG title, Starfield on September 6, 2023, and fans are gearing up. The Early Access edition was already made available for Premium Edition users, and it has already generated highly positive reviews. With multiple different quests to explore in the game, Starfield offers an engaging and diverse gaming experience that everyone can enjoy. However, all enjoyment is often dimmed as players encounter several different bugs quite frequently. One particular quest in the game, called the “In Memoriam” quest, has been reported to be extremely buggy. If you’ve been facing the same issue, then consider reading this guide until the end to find out how to fix it.

The In Memoriam quest in Starfield involves players going and talking with an NPC named Sarah Morgan a few times. If you successfully complete the quest, you can romance Sarah and eventually get married to her. For this, you’ll need to converse with her a number of times to improve your relationship with her. However, as Steam user janjotat explains, due to a bug, there is a certain situation during the quest where they aren’t able to interact with Sarah anymore after leading her to the war memorial. The quest flag gets triggered without her presence, and then every time the player attempts to converse with Sarah at the Lodge, she walks away. This leaves them stuck in the conversation, and they can’t complete the quest anymore. So how do solve the issue? Let’s find out.

Starfield In Memoriam Quest Bug: How to Fix?

Starfield In Memoriam Quest Bug

Well, this is a bug, and so here are some effective workarounds to get rid of it. But note that these are potential workarounds, and there is no guarantee they will fix the issue for good. Since they have been reported to work by many, you should give them a try.

Reload a previous save

If you’re stuck in a conversation with Sarah and cannot progress in the quest, you can load a previous save in the game and start the quest from the beginning. Of course, this is a lengthy process for solving the bug, but it has proven to be effective nonetheless. Try reloading a previous save and see if that solves the issue.

Complete other missions

Another surprising way of solving the In Memoriam quest bug in the game is to start and complete another mission first. You can preferably try to complete other quests and then head back to Sarah.

Switch ships

The next fix that you have to try is switching your ship in the game if Sarah is present inside it. You can perform this task by visiting a Ship Services Technician near the spaceports in the game. Opt for the “I’d like to view and modify my ships” dialogue option, and then click on the corresponding buttons to open the list of ships that you own. Then, simply press the “Make home ship” icon from the bottom-right corner of your screen on a different ship, and then see if the issue persists.

Add/Remove Sarah from the ship’s crew

Depending on whether you’ve had Sarah added or removed from your crew, you’ll need to change this option to try and fix the issue. When you open your character menu, you’ll be able to access your ship’s menu from the bottom-right corner of your screen. Here, open the crew tab, and you can then interact with Sarah’s profile to add or remove her from the crew.

Complete the Honor a Fallen Member Ceremony/Quest

If the issue persists, you must first complete the Honor a Fallen Member quest and then initiate a conversation with every NPC in the area. However, make sure that you converse with Sona at the very end. After this, you can talk to Sarah and then progress further.

Fast travel/Pass Time

If the above-mentioned workarounds don’t fix the bug, then try fast-traveling to a different location and then interacting with Sarah. If this doesn’t work, consider sleeping for a few hours or until the day of the ceremony and then checking.

Request Sarah to follow you

Well, this bug has been reported to get triggered when players try to put another NPC called Sona into the Lodge. However, this can be avoided by asking Sarah to wait at the Lodge and eventually follow you. This, apparently, has proven to be helpful in solving the In Memoriam quest bug.

So, this is how you can solve the In Memoriam quest bug in Starfield. That said, you can visit here to find out how to fix the Groundpounder quest bug in the game. Also, for more such gaming-related content, keep visiting DigiStatement!
