Sonic Superstars just saw its full release on October 17, 2023, and with that, many Sonic fans have once again started to wonder about what’s happening with Sonic Adventure 3. The last mainline Sonic Adventure game was SA2, which was released back in 2001 for the Dreamcast and other platforms later on. Aside from the innovative gameplay of the Adventure series, the reason it’s so beloved is that it gave fans the characters of Rouge and Shadow. With the latter in particular being very popular with a wide range of Sonic fans. And with Sonic Adventure 3, fans want something that will be as innovative and fun as the first two games.
Sega isn’t really known for making great decisions. It’s one of the major reasons why so many modern Sonic games have turned out the way they are. At one point, Sonic was touted as a rival to Mario, but Sega’s own shenanigans resulted in the blue hedgehog losing that status. However, in the past few years, Sega has been trying to put out good Sonic games, and this initiative of theirs has seen some success. Mania is regarded as one of the best 2D Sonic games, and Frontiers, while not perfect, is serving as a stepping stone for future open-world Sonic games. With all these developments in the last decade, fans can’t help but wonder when Sonic Adventure 3 is going to release or if it’s even in active development or not. Sonic Adventure 3 Release Date: When is it coming out
As of now, we still don’t have any clues as to when Sonic Adventure 3 will be released. More than that, we don’t even know if Sonic Adventure 3 is in active development or not. Judging by all the signs we have come upon so far, we believe that, for now at least, Sonic Adventure 3 is not being developed.
According to a VGC article published last year on June 14, 2022, Takashi Iizuka, the studio head of the Sonic Team, stated, “I want to be very direct and very clear: we have no plans to make Sonic Adventure 3.” All this, of course, was back in 2022, when the Sonic Team had all its focus on releasing Sonic Frontiers. And now, as we near the end of 2023, we are yet to find out what the Sonic Team is working on currently.
Over the years, there’s been a lot of speculation surrounding the release of Sonic Adventure 3. A few years ago, a major rumor surrounding the game was that Sega shelved the game’s development due to how Sonic Forces turned out. Which mind you was deemed commercially successful, but for some reason Sega decided to not continue the game’s production. But like any other rumors, we can’t really verify it without any kind of substantial proof. Suffice it to say, Sonic Adventure 3 and its release are still a mystery today. And so, fans will have to wait a while until anything Adventure 3-related is announced.
