If you have been playing Skin Deep or are planning to purchase it only to find that the game is limited to going as high as 60 FPS only, then, my friend, you have landed on the right page. Being an immersive first-person shooter featuring retro gameplay, it is only the FPS limitation that has put off players while justifying their purchase of the game. So, you might be wondering whether there is a way to fix this issue. Well, more details on the same are shared below.
Skin Deep is an FPS game, and that means fast movements, high-stakes encounters, and surviving off of limited resources are quite common. Well, if you have a high refresh rate monitor, you will soon begin to notice that the gameplay feels choppy due to the 60 FPS cap, which you might want to remove. But is it actually removable? Some say yes, while for the most part it’s a no. Here’s what we mean.

Skin Deep 60 FPS Lock Issue: Is there any fix yet
If you didn’t already know, Skin Deep is developed using the id Tech 4 engine. Yes, the infamous Doom 3 Engine from 2004. Due to this, while the in-game graphics give off a Doom-esque retro vibe, it comes with certain limitations, such as an FPS cap of 60. Of course, you wouldn’t expect a 2-decade-old engine to be compatible with 120/144 FPS by default. Also, there have been attempts made by other developers to incorporate 60+ FPS support in their games developed using the id Tech 4 engine, but it seems that the team behind Skin Deep, Blendo Games, isn’t really interested in doing so, given their small team.
The retro aesthetic comes with a price and that’s an FPS cap. However, this isn’t the end of it. While official support for 60+ FPS in Skin Deep is out of the question as per the developers, there are some alternatives you can try.
Lossless scaling
As per multiple player reports, you can potentially bypass the 60 FPS lock in Skin Deep using the Lossless Scaling application available on Steam. However, it has a price tag. If you are willing to pay, then this is the best solution. Using Lossless Scaling’s Frame Generation feature, you can potentially get 120 FPS gameplay in Skin Deep.
Create an autoexec
This workaround comes courtesy of Steam user Sangeki. What they shared is creating an autoexec file with a few parameters that might remove the FPS cap in Skin Deep. For this workaround, follow these steps:
- First, open File Explorer and head over to C:/Users/UsernameFolder/AppData/Roaming/skindeep/*NUMBERS*/base.
- Inside this directory, create a new file named autoexec and set its extension as .cfg. Now, open it using Notepad and paste the following parameters:
- seta com_precisetic “0”
seta com_fixedtic “1”
seta r_swapInterval “0”
- seta com_precisetic “0”
- Once done, save the changes and then launch the game to check whether the issue persists.
Note: There hasn’t been any confirmation from players whether this workaround is effective. So, if this doesn’t work, using Lossless Scaling is the best alternative.
