Risk of Rain 2: How to save in-game progress in single-player mode?

The Risk of Rain series saw a huge jump in its popularity following the release of Risk of Rain 2 in 2020. Available for all major platforms, including the Switch, it’s now considered one of the best in its genre and something that every rougelite fan recommends when given the chance. The amount of content it offers to the players is only rivaled by a few other titles like Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon, Gunfire Reborn, and the like. Now, with many players joining in every day to try out the game, some of them are kind of curious about the in-game progress save feature in the game’s single-player mode. And this guide here is meant to satisfy that curiosity.

When it comes to rougelites and even rougelikes for that matter, players are supposed to hone their skills at a particular game and use those skills to clear an entire run without dying. And only a few are able to do that on their first try. That’s why rougelites and rougelikes are so fun to play. The thrill you get upon defeating a boss after those thousands of tries is like no other. And having an in-game save progress feature can be of tremendous help in achieving that. So, how do you save your in-game progress in Risk of Rain 2? Well, continue reading to find out!

Honestly speaking, having the option to save in-game progress will be quite helpful to many, especially those who are new to both Risk of Rain 2 and the rougelite genre. It can get quite frustrating when you keep dying in quick succession and see no considerable progress in your skill. Adding an in-game progress save feature can help eliminate some of that frustration.

But unfortunately, Risk of Rain 2 doesn’t offer such a feature right now for the single-player mode. At least natively, that is. And once again, thanks to ROR2 being available on PC, mods have once again arrived to the rescue. There’s a mod called ProperSave which serves as a kind of makeshift in-game progress save feature. So, if you are okay with using mods, download r2modman to manage your Thunderstore mods comfortably. Next, install ProperSave and the following two mods, since ProperSave needs these:

  • RiskofThunder-HookGenPatcher
  • Bbepis-BepInExPack

Now, coming to this ProperSave mod, one thing that you should know is that it only saves your progress at the start of each stage. You can’t use it to save mid-run progress and such. Furthermore, you only get one save file for each profile in singleplayer, so when you die in a run, that particular run’s save file will be deleted.

As for what game mods does this mod support? Well, currently it has support for Classic, Eclipse, and Simulacrum, and each mode has its own save files, so don’t worry about losing progress and such. Well, that’s the extent of our knowledge on this topic. For more guides like this, don’t forget to follow DigiStatement.
