Remnant 2 Old Whistle: How to get, find, & use

Fans of 2019’s Remnant: From the Ashes can finally start a new journey, as Remnant 2 was released on July 25th, 2023. Officially released for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms, the game is a welcome addition to the series. Its predecessor, Remnant: From the Ashes, captivated players through its engaging souls-like combat and overall gameplay design. Remnant 2 not only does the same but even improves upon the mistakes the first game made. It has already become a critical success, as evidenced by all the reviews from major gaming media outlets. Now, like the first game, Remnant 2 also has lots of elements that might make some players scratch their heads in confusion. One of those is the Old Whistle. There are players in the community who seem to have a hard time finding this item in the game. So, we have featured this guide, sharing all the details on how to get the Old Whistle in Remnant 2.

Remnant 2, like other souls-like games, comes with lots of classes, or archetypes, as they are called in the game. And just as in Remnant: From the Ashes, the build variety in the sequel is endless as well. However, you aren’t given all the archetypes at once. That would be boring. Rather, the game makes you do certain tasks, and fulfill specific conditions in order to unlock an archetype. One of these archetypes has been so hard to unlock that no player has been able to get it since the game’s release. You can read more about that here. But we can certainly help you unlock one of such archetypes in-game by sharing details on where to find the Old Whistle.

For the uninitiated, the Old Whistle is an important item in Remnant 2, particularly used for crafting the Silent Whistle Engram. In-game, it’s described as – “This looks to be a whistle of sorts, yet no sound emerges when it’s blown. It’s almost as if its purpose lies in something beyond our auditory senses.” As hinted at by that description, the Old Whistle is quite useless on its own. But what makes it so much more desirable is that it is a requirement for unlocking the Handler Archetype.

Finding Old Whistle

To start, go to Ward 13 and search for an NPC vendor named Mudtooth there. He’s quite easy to find, as you can locate him near Reggie, selling his wares. Approach Mudtooth and you will be able to purchase several items from him, including the Old Whistle, which sells for about x1500 scraps. Give Mudtooth the requested amount and become the proud new owner of Old Whistle.

Use Old Whistle

As the description says, the Old Whistle is of no use on its own. But it is an important item when it comes to crafting the Silent Whistle Engram and unlocking a new archetype. Remain in Ward 13, and then go to Wallace. Now, in order to craft the Silent Whistle Engram, you will need the following items besides the Old Whistle:

  • x10 Lumenite Crystal
  • x1000 Scrap

Now, you can get the Silent Whistle Engram and unlock the Handler archetype. That said, we hope this guide was able to provide you with all the information you needed.
