Remnant 2 is getting more popular day by day. The souls-like third-person action shooter by Gunfire Games just achieved an all-time peak of almost 110K players (data collected from Steam Charts on July 30, 2023). That’s not the kind of number you see every day. As evidenced by that player number, it’s safe to say that Remnant 2 has been a huge success for Gunfire Games. While the game is certainly enjoying a constant addition of players, it does have some issues that need immediate fixing. One of those issues is the character progress lost on the host server, which has been particularly frustrating to deal with.
Although there are other issues in the game, this one is especially concerning because it results in the player losing character progress. Imagine playing for hours, grinding hard, and then suddenly losing your hard-earned progress because of an unknown bug. That’s not something anyone would want to experience. So, here’s a guide that will help you deal with this “character progress lost on host server” issue in Remnant 2.
Remnant 2 Character Progress Lost in Host Server Issue: Is there any fix yet
As of writing this guide, players are yet to get an official fix for this issue. As such, you can follow the potential workarounds mentioned here until an update addressing this issue is released.
Use an older save file –
One of the best ways to deal with this issue is to simply load an older save file. If you have one of those lying around as a backup, then go ahead and use it. Now, if you don’t have any older save files, we suggest you follow the next workaround. Additionally, you should be familiar with the save file location of the game so that you can make a backup and don’t have to rely on cloud saves in the future. Here’s a guide to the save file location of the game.
Don’t close the game instantly –
There are two instances where the game will trigger cloud save: every 15 minutes and when you instantly close the game. In the future, if you encounter these types of issues, we suggest you don’t close the game immediately but instead open the File Explorer and delete the local save while the game is running. This will make the game download the previous save game from the cloud, hopefully fixing the issue.
Start a new run –
This isn’t entirely a fix,” but it’s better than nothing. Until Gunfire Games solves this issue, you can start a new run. If you do proceed with this method, then we recommend that you save frequently and make a local backup of your saved files to avoid the same in the future.
Disable auto sync to cloud save –
This is the best preventative measure for this issue. You should go ahead and disable auto sync to cloud save on your platform, and from now on, only upload manual saves to the cloud.
Contact Support –
If you still want your old progress back and nothing else works, then all you can do is contact support and see if they can fix this issue for you. There’s no guarantee that you will get your character progress back, but you should still give this a try and see what happens.
