Redmi 8 devices in India are finally getting Android 10

The Redmi 8 was one of the most popular devices of Q1 2020, sharing the stage with Samsung’s A51. And for good reason, the Redmi 8 continued Xiaomi’s tradition of providing great hardware at a price that most of us can actually afford.

It was launched in October 2019. It had an IPS LCD display of 6.22-inches with a resolution of 720 x 1520. Under the hood, it had a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor. The phone could be configured with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. On the back, it had a dual-camera setup with a 12MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. In the front, it had an 8MP selfie camera. Powering all of this was a massive 5000mAh battery. Now the huge battery combined with a not-so-powerful processor meant that it had amazing battery life. The phone could easily last 2 days.

But there was one downside. Out of the box, it ran MIUI 11 based on Android 9. Now, this was surprising as a lot of Xiaomi’s older hones had been updated to Android 10. But then again, this was nothing new for a budget device. Luckily for users, Android version upgrades do not matter as much because Xiaomi includes all the new features in MIUI.

But for those who like to live on the cutting edge (disregarding the fact that we are awfully close to the release of Android 11), we have some good news. Redmi 8 devices are finally getting the Android 10 update in India. The version is V11.0.1.0.QCNCNXM. The updates will be arriving through OTA. The Android Security Patch has also been updated to the latest August 2020 one. Xiaomi had previously released the stable beta-build for the Redmi 8 just a few days earlier, around July 5. Now Redmi 8 users can start impatiently waiting for MIUI 12.

Changelog:

  • Stable MIUI based on Android 10
