The PS5 saw its official launch in 2020, and since then it has gone on to sell a mind-blowing 50 million units. This effectively puts it at the forefront of the ninth generation of consoles, leaving Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S far behind in terms of sales. Nintendo, on the other hand, is still yet to launch its entry for the ninth generation, as the Switch nears its end cycle. While the PS5 has been quite a great console in terms of both hardware and games, it seems like some users still face technical issues from time to time. A major issue that’s been giving players constant frustration is the “stuck on sparkle screen” issue.
It’s next to impossible to find a source for this issue. Most seem to be encountering this issue after logging in, but it’s not limited to that alone. Nevertheless, it’s a major issue and hence needs to be addressed immediately. So, if you are struggling with the same issue, continue reading to find out the workarounds for this.
PS5 stuck on sparkle screen: How to fix it?
Players should use the following workarounds to deal with this issue. Try these and see if any of them are of help to you.
Update the console –
A simple system update is all you need to fix this issue. Well, at least, this is what some players did to get the PS5 working again. Since the PS5 gets stuck, the only way to update the console is through safe mode. So, if you are new to this, just follow the instructions here:
- First, turn off the PS5 by holding the power button for three seconds.
- After turning it off, hold the power button once again. Keep holding the power button until you hear the second beep.
- Next, connect your PS5 controller with the USB cable and press the PS button.
- Now, choose the Update System Software option and wait for the download to finish.
Power cycle the console –
Besides updating the system software, power cycling the console can also work. And power cycling is pretty easy too. All you need to do is turn off the console first and then unplug it. Next, wait for about a minute or two. Now, just plug back in the console and turn it on. If the issue continues to persist, try the next method.
Restart –
A simple restart can also serve as a usable method to bypass this problem. Now, unlike the previous fix, all you have to do for this one is to simply turn off the console by holding the power button. After it’s turned off, hold the power button again to turn it on.
Rebuild Database –
For some others, rebuilding the database is what helped them deal with this issue, so you can give that a try. To do that, you will need to enter Safe Mode first, which you can get to by following the first method up to the point where you see some options on your screen. Now, scroll down and select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Rebuild Database.
Move your left stick up and to the left –
As shared here, the issue could be that the icons simply went off-screen. Now, the recommended way to solve this is by just moving your controller’s left stick up and to the left of the screen. This will most likely fix this issue. If it doesn’t, try another workaround.
Use another controller –
Some players have chalked up this issue to a defective controller. So, if you happen to have a spare controller lying around, connect it to the PS5 and use it. If you don’t, try the next workaround.
Reset PS5 –
If none of the aforementioned workarounds were of help, you can try resetting the PS5. However, know that this will mean you will have to download all of your games again and log in to your PS account. So, if you are comfortable with that, enter Safe Mode and choose the Reset PS5 option. Now there are two Reset PS5 options. The first one deletes all user data and sets your console to its original state. While the one titled Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) will delete all user data and also remove the PS5 system software. We recommend going with the former.
