Pokemon Scarlet & Violet (SV) How to get Pokemon Off-Guard

In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, if you want to snag a pokemon without engaging it directly, you can catch it off guard easily. The latest game of the franchise has tons of new features that make it a truly groundbreaking open-world RPG. All sorts of pokemon from older games and new 9th gen ones make an appearance and you can capture them and level them up. In the Paldean world of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, wild pokemon encounters are very common and if any of them seems interesting to you, it’s best to catch them off-guard. Wondering how you can do that? Not to worry as our article will brief all the details on the same.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet (SV) How to get Pokemon Off-Guard

In the game, you’ll come across different types of wild pokemon that’ll start engaging you in battle if you get close. When engaged in a fight, you have three options. Either you can battle the wild pokemon, run away from the battle or use a Pokeball on it. However, if you sneak up on an unsuspecting pokemon, you’ll have the advantage of a preemptive strike that you can land. Depending on the type of attack, it can deal huge damage and allow you to even capture the wild pokemon as well. This is very beneficial against speed-type pokemon as they can swiftly dodge your attacks. Now that you know the usefulness of sneaking behind pokemon, it’s time we get into how you can catch one off-guard.

How to catch pokemon off-guard in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

If a pokemon caught your eye and you want to capture it, not getting spotted is the best way to approach it. However, to successfully catch a pokemon off guard, properly timing your throw when the pokemon is not looking in your direction is the ultimate key here. If you strike them with their backs turned, you’ll have increased odds of catching them off-guard. Use the crouch mechanic when sneaking behind them to decrease your movement sound. The game will even notify you that you have caught them off guard if you do this the right way. So, press the B button to crouch and the ZL button to lock on the pokemon. After this, throw the Pokeball and you should be able to catch it off-guard.
