Trainers exiting a battle after matchmaking will result in a penalty

Having your opponent leave mid-match is the worst. Nobody likes when they are left hanging from a challenge. If you have played Pokemon Go, you are probably familiar with the feeling. However, recent developments in the game lead us to believe that trainers exiting a battle after matchmaking will result in a penalty. Here’s all you need to know about the same:

Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go happens to be one of the most popular games to exist. For anyone who had access to a TV set as a kid, Pokemon is a common word. The show went on to be an important part of several childhoods all across the world. Following this success, the game Pokemon Go had a huge impact on pop culture since its conception.

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game that involves going outside. While going outside is a luxury in the current global pandemic the world is suffering with, it was the craze back in 2016. Pokemon Go would get even the most inside-loving people out and about searching for Pokemon.

Exiting a battle will result in a penalty

That’s right, if you find your opponent dodging a match, for whatever reasons, they will incur a penalty. Justice is sweet. PokeMiners released a tweet detailing a new bug fix Niantic carried out. Here is the tweet:

The GBL Known Issues page has been updated to mention if a player dodges a match after being matched, it will be counted as a loss unless they re-open the app and complete the battle.https://t.co/6jiIS10KBE

This issue was mentioned on the Niantic Support page. The Pokemon Go Battle League Known Issues page described the issue as:

Trainers were able to quit a GO Battle League match after seeing their opponent.

Issue description: In the matchmaking screen, upon being matched with an opponent, Trainers were able to dodge a match with no penalty if they quickly closed and then restarted their application. Now, if a Trainer attempts to exit a battle after being matched, the battle will be counted as a loss unless the Trainer reopens the app and completes the battle.
Issue status: Mitigated in release (0.207)
