As the Coronavirus pandemic hits every major countries, the backlash of which is reverberated across the gaming industry and all the corporations struggle to keep up the awareness as well as changing their executive pattern. Niantic, the developers of the loved Pokemon Go announced a number of updates without taking the name of the novel Coronavirus.
The update is done to ensure the safety and health of the players all around the globe. It encourages the player to enjoy the game in ‘individual setting’ and will remain in place until ‘further notice’.
The pack of incense, yeah that huge 30 one, is now on a sale for one Pokecoin! It increases the frequency of monster spawns and remains active for a whole hour. Incubator mechanics have also been changed to allow players to hatch the eggs in half the steps, and Pokestops gifts frequency has also increased to limit the player time wait. Pokemon habitats are increasing to make it easier for players to catch Pokemon that are nearer to their homes and the number of Pokemon is also on the increase.
In a statement to Polygon, the company said the updates are “based on the current global health situation,” advising players to “make decisions on where to go and what to do that are in the best interest of their health and the health of their communities.”
Niantic is not the only company that are taking actions to protect the players from coronavirus as gaming events all across the globes are getting canceled in the directive of public safety, a prime example of which is the ESL Los Angeles Dota major. The Overwatch league has also canceled all their live events till May.
This might also be a bane for gamers in general because we all know how much we like to be shut in at home all day playing games and now we can!
Happy and safe gaming!
