Payday 3 Plugin ImgMedia failed to load Issue Is there any fix yet

After the open beta, in which many got a taste of the new Payday 3 game, players finally have it out on global release. With it, a lot of players are trying the game out. But sadly, some are having to deal with the Plugin ImgMedia failed to load issue. Interestingly, this error did not show up during the open beta. So, if you are encountering this issue in Payday 3, keep reading this article, as we have shared some workarounds for this error.

The issue players are encountering with Payday 3 involves a popup error message stating, “Plugin ‘ImgMedia’ failed to load because module ‘ExrReaderGpu’ could not be found. Please ensure the plugin is properly installed; otherwise, consider disabling the plugin for this product.” From this pop-up, we can speculate that a required module for the ImgMedia plugin is missing or improperly installed, leading to the game’s failure to launch. But is there a way to fix this? Well, continue reading to find out.

Of course, as is the case with errors in most new releases, this one too does not have an official fix yet. Considering the fact that the game was released recently, perhaps the developers have not yet been fully aware of the situation. Regardless, gamers have been discussing the issue and sharing potential workarounds. So, we have listed two similar workarounds that have worked for the players who suggested them.

Delete Beta files of the game

To address this problem, players have found a workaround. One player, ThorF, recommends deleting all data related to the beta version of the game. This can be done by uninstalling the game via Steam and then manually deleting any remaining files associated with the beta version. After completing this process, players should reinstall the game, and it should work flawlessly.

Another player, Gian800, provided a similar solution. They suggest opening the game folder and sorting all the files by date. Then, delete any files that are associated with the beta version of the game. Afterward, verify the game files through Steam, which should prompt the download of any necessary files to ensure the game’s functionality. To verify the files, the steps for different platforms are given below:

  • Steam: Head to the library, right-click on Payday 3, and click on Properties. In this “Installed Files” tab, you will find the option to verify your files.
  • Epic Game Launcher: For EGS users, it is similar. Open the library and click on the three-dot symbol below Payday 3. Select “Manage” and click on the “Verify” button to verify the game files.
  • Xbox Game Pass: From the list of games, right-click on Payday 3. Click on “Manage” and head to the “Files” tab. Here, you will see the verify option.

After the verification is completed, launch the game, and check whether the issue persists.

Other fixes?

Well, if the above-mentioned workarounds do not work for you, you can consider these potential fixes:

  • Run as Administrator: Perhaps you have not given the game administrator privileges, leading to errors like this. So, right-click on the game’s executable file and select “Run as administrator”. After this, start the game and see if the issue persists.
  • Restart Steam and PC: In the Steam client window, click on the Steam option and select Exit. After that, shut down your PC as well. Give it some time to rest, and then boot it up.
  • Verify Files after restart: The steps to verify game files for different platforms have been shared already. So, after you are done restarting your PC, try verifying the game files of Payday 3 and see if this solves the issue.

Well, those are some workarounds you can try to get rid of this imgmedia failed to load error in Payday 3. We hope this guide was informative. For more reads like this, make sure to visit DigiStatement regularly. Read more: Payday 3: How to add/invite friends & play with them
