OnePlus in 2014 promised to release a ROM which is close to stock, bloat-free, and highly customizable. The company soon held a “Name the ROM” contest to give its ROM a name. On 30 January 2015 OnePlus officially announced the names OxygenOS and HydrogenOS. Since then, OxygenOS is one of the most loved custom Android OS. OnePlus’ latest flagship OnePlus 8 Pro came with OxygenOS 10.5.4 out of the box. Currently, OnePlus is currently working to provide OxygenOS 11. In the coming future, the major software update to expect from OnePlus is the upcoming OxygenOS 12, which may also be named HydrogenOS 12.
OxygenOS 12 Release Date:
Looking at the release date of older OxygenOS ROMs, OxygenOS 9 was released in December 2018, OxygenOS 10 was released around December 2019. The OxygenOS 11 first beta released in the first week of September this year & its stable release is expected within this month or next month. We can expect the upcoming OxygenOS 12 to release in the Q3 & Q4 of 2021.
OxygenOS 12 Features:
OxygenOS 12 will be based on Android 12. Hence, we can expect it to come with Android 12 features. As of now, only one Android 12 feature is revealed by Google. Google will now allow users to use third-party app stores. This will make it even easier for people to use other app stores on their devices while being careful not to compromise the safety measures Android has in place.
Adding to it, we can also see some attractive features such as Dual Mode Music Share, customizable notification bar colors, and multiple dark modes, new navigation gestures, optimized floating windows. We can expect some more enhancements in the OxygenOS 12, particularly around privacy and data security.
