NHL 22 is a sports franchise game. It is an ice hockey simulation video game from the developer studio, EA Vancouver, and publisher, EA Sports. The game features popular hockey players as its cover star with every iteration. Likewise, this time the Toronto Maple Leaf’s center Auston Matthews is the cover athlete for the second time in the series, after being the North American cover athlete for NHL 20.

The game is the 31st installment in the popular NHL video game series. It is the first game in the series that uses a new game engine, this time the game uses the proprietary Frostbite Engine. The game uses the same engine on all platforms and also, will be released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in October 2021.NHL 22 screens

NHL 22 Early Access & Issues

The upcoming ice hockey game is currently available for fans as an Early Access. It is available on EA Play & Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Players can download the game as a trial and play the game for up to 10 hours before the game officially releases. However, the trial of the NHL 22 release is not a smooth sailing experience, thus facing multiple issues and problems within just 10 hours of release. Consequently, resulting in the server shutdown.

In response to the issues, the Community Manager of NHL 22 said, “The NHL 22 servers will be down for a short period starting at 9 pm ET to solve the issue of HUT items getting stuck in the auction house.” This happened on October 7. According to the trial of the game and the overall experience so far, there are likely many more issues that need fixing from the Devs. Likewise, the issues & problems that need fixing include game crashes across various gameplay modes.

Coming to the main topic of this article, many fans are wondering if the upcoming NHL 22 game features crossplay.

NHL 22 Crossplay & DetailsNHL 22 screens

The official details regarding crossplay for the upcoming NHL 22 are that the game won’t have crossplay of any nature. Likewise, there is no crossplay support across systems or generations. That means players will only be able to play against those on the same console as them. Additionally, the game also does not have support for cross-gen. This means that each generation of consoles has a separate game version entirely. Consequently, the PS4 version cannot cross-play with the PS5 version and the progression also does not carry over. Thus, it means players need a different profile on each of the consoles.
