Need for Speed (NFS) Unbound crashing, not working & launching: How to fix it?
Unfortunately, the developers haven’t yet released a hotfix at the time of writing this article. But, several players have come up with different workarounds that might fix the issue for you. We have mentioned all these solutions below for you to try.
1) Check the minimum system requirement-
You might witness Need for Speed (NFS) Unbound crashing and not working if your PC does not match the minimum system requirements. You need a minimum of Intel Core i5-8600/Ryzen 5 2600 processor, 8 GB RAM, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 Ti/RX 570, and 50 GB available space to run the game smoothly. If your system fails to meet these requirements, it is time for an upgrade.
2) Lower the in-game settings-
The other reason why NFS Unbound might be crashing or not launching on your system is due to high in-game settings. So, if you are able to start the game, then go to Settings and lower all the graphical settings. This might fix the issue and allow the game to run on your PC.
3) Delete the PCDX12 file-
A user on EA’s forum suggested deleting the PCDX12 file fixes the crashing issue. This is a game file located in the Documents folder on your PC. To reach this file, you will need to go to This PC> Documents> Need For Speed(TM) Unbound. Here, you will find the Cache folder. Inside, look for the PCDX12 file and delete it. According to a lot of other players, doing this has fixed the issue to some extent.
4) Update GPU drivers-
Outdated GPU drivers can also hinder a video game from performing. So, go to NVIDIA’s or AMD’s website and download the latest version of the drivers and install them. Always keep your GPU drivers up to date to avoid these types of issues.
5) Verify the game files-
If you purchased the game through Steam, then you can try verifying the game files. This will replace all the corrupt game files with new ones. To do this, launch Steam and go to Library. Here, right-click on Need for Speed (NFS) Unbound and then go to Properties. Now, head over to the Local Files tab. Next, click on Verify integrity of the game files option. This takes some time so be patient. You should also reboot your system after performing this method.
6) Make sure that the game is using the right GPU-
If your system has multiple GPUs, then it is possible that Need for Speed (NFS) Unbound is running on the integrated one. This can also cause the game to crash as the GPU is unable to take the load. To switch your graphics processor, press the Windows key and type NVIDIA Control Panel. Now, click on 3D settings> Manage 3D settings. Here, select NFS Unbound from the drop-down menu. Now, simply select your dedicated GPU from the Preferred graphics processor option. AMD GPU owners will need to follow similar steps in order to switch their GPUs as well.
