Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1) Text To Speech Not Turning Off Issue Is there any fix yet

Imagine you’re in a fancy restaurant, and as you’re trying to pick your favorite dish from the menu, an unexpected waiter keeps whispering menu descriptions in your ear, even though you never asked for them. This weird voice, which you didn’t invite to your dinner, guides you through everything from starters to desserts. Now, the same is happening in Mortal Kombat 1, where you’re navigating menus, and out of the blue, a strange voice starts describing every option you hover over. Well, that’s the text-to-speech feature in action. Although it is a helpful feature, not every player wants their in-game menu to be repeated via a strange voice. And, due to an issue in the game, this feature stays active even when set to Off. So, is there a fix to this?

This text-to-speech setting can be quite confusing for players. Well, as per recent reports, it stays on even when players turn it off. So, if you are encountering the same problem, consider reading until the end for workarounds on fixing this issue for good.

The quirky voice guiding you through Mortal Kombat 1’s menus isn’t a bug; it’s more like an accessibility feature that’s there to assist players who might benefit from some extra guidance. But if the in-game toggle for this setting isn’t turning off the feature, here are some workarounds you can try.

Restart and Change Settings

After restarting the game, go to the in-game settings menu and toggle off the Text-To-Speech option. To do this, while you are in the main menu, navigate to the Settings menu. Within the Settings menu, look for the Accessibility section. Inside the Accessibility settings, you will find the option to disable the Screen Reader. You can either turn it off completely or, as an alternative, set the Screen Reader Volume to zero percent.

Access Config File

If the issue persists, you can manually edit the config file to disable the text-to-speech function. Now, if you do not know how to do it, we have got your back! Just follow the steps given below to do the same:

Note: Before you make any changes to the.ini file, we recommend taking a backup first. If things go south, you can replace the edited file with the original backup.

  • Navigate to the directory where the Mortal Kombat 1 configuration file is stored. The typical path is C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\MK12\Saved\Steam\Config\WindowsNoEditor.
  • Inside this directory, you’ll find various configuration files. Look for the GameUserSettings.ini file.
  • Using a text editor like Notepad, open the configuration file you’ve located.
  • Within the config file, search for the command related to Text-To-Speech. If you find it, make sure to alter its value to false or 0.
  • After making this change, save the file.

Now, launch the game and see if the text-to-speech feature has been turned off.

Reinstall

As a final resort, you can attempt to fix the Text-To-Speech issue by reinstalling the game. During the reinstallation process, pay attention to the initial setup screens and ensure that you do not select or enable the Text-To-Speech option when presented. This should help resolve issues related to this accessibility feature.

Contact Support

If, after reinstalling the game and ensuring that Text-To-Speech is turned off during setup, the issue still persists, it’s advisable to contact the game’s support or customer service for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific solutions or insights into resolving the problem.

With those methods, you should be able to troubleshoot the text-to-speech feature in Mortal Kombat 1. Now, if you found this guide helpful, consider visiting DigiStatement regularly for more reads like this. Read more: Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1): How to disable Motion Blur & Film Grain
