Marvel's Spider-Man 2 HDR Not Working Issue Is there any fix yet

If you’ve been eagerly waiting to swing through the vibrant streets of New York in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and were excited about experiencing the game in all its HDR glory, you might have run into an issue that’s left you scratching your head. Some players have reported problems with HDR not working as expected in the game. So, in this article, we will dive into the reported HDR issue and share some potential fixes to get HDR working again.

For most gamers, setting up HDR for a new game is as simple as toggling the option on and making a few adjustments in the in-game settings. However, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 seems to have presented a unique challenge to some players. Upon launching the game, many players noticed that the colors appeared washed out and lacked the vividness that HDR is supposed to deliver. In some cases, it even felt like a grayscale effect had been applied to the visuals. Upon further investigation, they found that the HDR toggle in the game settings was disabled and locked to the “On” position. The game instructed players to adjust HDR settings within the PS5’s video settings. So, is there a way to fix the HDR not working issue in the game? Continue reading to find out.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 HDR Not Working Issue Is there any fix yet

Unfortunately, there is no official fix for his issue, not at least at the time of writing this article. Naturally, players have been discussing the problem and sharing some potential workarounds. So, we have listed the most effective workarounds for you to try! But remember that they are still just potential fixes and, as such, not guaranteed to work for everyone.

Enable HDR from the Console settings

From the main menu of your console, navigate and go to Settings > Screen and Video > Select Video Output > HDR. Here, if you see that the HDR is not Always On, change it! What this does is force HDR, even if the games and apps aren’t HDR-compatible.

120 Hz and VRR

Frustrated with the situation, players started experimenting with various settings to find a potential workaround. One such solution involves setting the in-game Graphics Mode to Fidelity, turning off VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and enabling the 120 Hz Display Mode option. After enabling these changes, they exited the settings menu and re-entered, finally setting the 120 Hz mode to off. This convoluted process seemed to work for some players, but it doesn’t guarantee a fix for all modes. Well, you can give this method a try.

The choice of the Graphics Mode is crucial in this process. For players who are devoted to the highest resolution and graphical quality, Fidelity mode is the preferred option. While the game offers Performance and 120FPS modes, some players appreciate the quality that Fidelity mode provides, even if it means playing at 30FPS.

Change Resolution

Another player suggested that dropping the resolution from 2160p (4K) to 1440p might alleviate the HDR issue. The lower resolution is believed to reduce the HDMI bandwidth required for both 120 Hz and VRR, making it possible to enable HDR simultaneously. So, try lowering the in-game resolution and checking whether the HDR issue is fixed.

The discussions among players reveal that there may not be a one-size-fits-all solution to the HDR problem in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Each player’s experience seems to vary based on their console settings, video mode preferences, etc. For now, just try the workarounds mentioned above, and hopefully, you will be able to enjoy the game in all of its HDR glory.
