2023 was a particularly good year for soulslike thanks to titles like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Lords of the Fallen, Remnant 2, and more. And one of the best soulslike to come out in 2023 was developer Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio’s Lies of P. Released on September 19, 2023, it was highly praised for its difficulty and weapon customization. Players are still enjoying their time with the game but unfortunately, a particular dxgi_error_device_removed issue seems to have become a major source of frustration.
The DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error is a pretty common occurrence in a plethora of games. It usually happens when the graphics driver crashes. Whatever the cause, maybe this issue can’t be ignored. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, let’s go ahead and find out.
Lies of P dxgi_error_device_removed issue: How to fix it?
Players can use the following workarounds to deal with this issue. Try these and see if any of them are of help.
Change Registry Key –
A common fix for this dxgi_error_device_removed error is to simply change or modify the GraphicsDriver Registry key. Now, you can use the instructions below if you don’t know how to do that:
- Press Windows (Win) + S and type in regedit. Next, click on Registry Editor.
- In the Registry Editor, find GraphicsDrivers in this registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers.
- Once you have found GraphicsDrivers, right-click on it and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Type TdrLevel as the title for DWORD. Next, double-click on TdrLevel, and that should activate the Value box. Make sure that the Value data is set to 0.
- You can now close the Registry Editor and restart your PC.
Disable OC (Overclocking) –
If you happen to have overclocked your GPU or processor, we suggest you undo that. Overclocking seems to be a pretty frequent cause behind this issue, and as such undoing should resolve it. So, try this and see if it helps. However, if you didn’t OC your GPU or processor, then we suggest trying other workarounds.
Update –
Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date with the latest available version. While you are at it, we also recommend updating the game and the PC itself. If the issue continues even after updating the game then check out the next workaround. You can also try a clean install of your GPU drivers and find out if that works.
Enter certain commands –
We suggest that you run some console commands in order to ensure that there aren’t any Windows errors. For this, what you need to do is open Command Prompt as an administrator and type in the following commands:
- DISM/Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- sfc /scannow
Change user permission to full control for nvlddmkm.sys –
Another fix for this issue seems to be giving full user permission to the nvlddmkm.sys file. And you can do that by using the following instructions:
- Open File Explorer and go to C:\Windows\System32. Inside the System32 folder, find the nvlddmkm.sys file.
- Once found, right-click on the file and select Properties. Switch to the Security tab and select whichever user you intend to give full control to.
- Next, click on Edit and tick the checkbox against the Full Control option.
- End the process by clicking on Apply and OK.
- Now, all you need to do is restart the PC.
Turn off DLSS/AMD FSR –
Well, this is another potential workaround that might help you fix this issue. As the title suggests, what you all need to do is open the in-game settings and disable DLSS or FSR if you happen to be using it. Additionally, we also suggest disabling Nvidia Shadowplay and Antialiasing via the Nvidia Control Panel.
Well, that’s all the workarounds we have for this issue. Additionally, you can also take a quick look here if you want to know where the game’s save files are located.
