Lethal Company Infinite Black Screen Issue on Startup: Is there any fix yet

Lethal Company is ending 2023 on a high note. The game, which was released as an early access title back in October 2023, quickly went on to garner a huge and loyal following. So much so that it’s been constantly on Steam’s Top Games (active player numbers) and Top Selling lists. Suffice it to say, Lethal Company is one of the best indie games to come out of 2023. However, the game isn’t without its fair share of issues. And currently, the Infinite Black Screen Issue on Startup issue is a big one.

Well, as the reports suggest, for whatever reason, when the game starts, it simply freezes on a black screen. But then, when players try to click anything, the game just crashes. So, what’s causing this issue? To be honest, it could be anything ranging from a faulty display adapter to a missing file. So, are there any fixes for this available? Well, continue reading to find out.

For now, players will have to make do with the following workarounds, as there isn’t any official fix available for the issue yet

Disable HDR –

Some players had success bypassing this issue by simply disabling HDR, so we suggest you try that. All you need for that is to press Windows + Alt + B. If you want to enable HDR again at a later point, press the same keys, and it will turn on HDR.

Update –

Updating the game, GPU drivers, and Windows, is a good way to avoid a lot of issues. So, first and foremost, check if there’s an update available for all of them. If there’s one, go ahead and install the update. However, if the issue continues to exist even after updating, switch to another workaround.

Verify files –

When a game’s file gets corrupted or is missing, issues like this one will be frequent. The only way to fix this is by simply verifying the game files. To do this, just –

  • Open Steam and click on Library.
  • Now, right-click on Lethal Company and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

Delete save game data –

If you’re someone who’s comfortable starting from scratch, then use this method. Basically, what you need to do is delete all the saved files related to Lethal Company and then launch the game. So, press Windows + R and then type in or copy-paste the following to go to the game’s installation folder: %APPDATA%\LocalLow\ZeekerssRBLX\Lethal Company. Here, delete everything inside and then launch the game.

Disable Display Adapter (Intel)–

Players can also try disabling the unused Display Adapter (if they have one), as doing so has worked wonders for some. Now, if you don’t know how to do that, just follow the instructions below:

  • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager.
  • From the options presented, find Display Adapters and click on it to expand the option.
  • Now, right-click on the Display Adapter (Intel) and then select Disable Device.
  • Click Yes when you see the warning message pop up.

You can also reenable the Display Adapter and see if that helps.

Switch to HDMI 2.0 –

It’s been found that this particular issue is quite common in HDMI 1.0. So, as the community generally suggests, use a monitor with HDMI 2.0. And that’s what you should do too, if you are using an HDMI 1.0 monitor to play the game.

Make sure the game is using your system’s dedicated GPU –

When there is both an iGPU and a dedicated GPU installed, a game might just keep using the iGPU unless ordered otherwise. And the same might be the case here. So, what you should do is type in Graphics settings in the search bar and open it. Now, click on the Browse button and add Lethal Company. After that, select the recently added game, and click on Options. Now, choose High Performance and click on Save.

And that’s all the information we have on this topic. Additionally, if you want to know about installing the GokuBracken mod in the game, here’s a guide regarding the same.
